The more I think about it I am leaning towards Kovalev. Canelo's best work comes at close range but Kovalev is an outside fighter; jab jab, right hand, move and look for another opening and look for another power shot. I saw plenty in the Yarde fight to see he has not strayed far from his regular Modus Operendai and while he is slower and less trigger happy, against someone like Canelo he might want to establish that power (which is STILL there) immediately as well as that jab. Keep Canelo at range and back up as and when required. His feet are still good too. As long as his head space is healthy, he is still a very good fighter.
I like Canelo in this fight. He seems to rise above the level of opposition (except against Mayweather). Canelo takes a great punch, which is a must for him against Kovalev. Canelo is not a huge puncher, but he'll hit hard enough to get through to Kovalev, who doesn't have the greatest defense. Canelo by decision.
That's a great point.I like Canelo for that reason, didn't need a ref for Canelo v GGG.If Canelo can't disrupt Kovalevs range I'm afraid he really will get picked off. Canelo does struggle with guys with good jabs,Floyd,Lara,Golovkin and well Kovalev can keep that jab going all night.
