I just mentioned this in another thread.

Here's a video of what I'm assuming is him announcing it

    https://twitter.com/UkraineAtamans/status/752570736720633857

Translation from the link you posted

'Kovalev will return the fee for a fight with chilemba family of the deceased boxer Simakov

The world champion in the light heavyweight champion WBA / WBO / IBF versions of Sergei Kovalev will donate his fee for a fight with Isaac Chilemba family boxer Roman Simakov, who died after a battle with him.

"Five years ago, here, in Yekaterinburg, held my fight against Roman Simakov, I promised I would donate his fee to his parents. Therefore, as said, a fee I will sacrifice to his family"

Kovalev really is a god, not a triple G, but a god nonetheless.

How much is he making from this fight? It should be like at least 2-3m right? That's just incredible if he's donating all that.

Pretty sure it's less than that, probably about $1 million.

Still a very noble, yes even incredible, gesture. Actually Kovalev is not nearly as well off as many other top fighters, so him giving $1 million means a lot more than if Floyd or Canelo gave $1 million.

Doubt it was even 1 million probably 500k-800k. I dont know where people are getting their numbers, GGG made 2m against Lemieux on PPV, in what world is Kovalev getting paid the same or more than that in a tune up fight before his big showdown against Ward.

You could be right, it's hard to say. For reference, Kovalev made:

Nothing until his rematch with Boone
    5k against Boone
    500k against Hopkins
    3.25M against Pascal 1
    750k against Mohammedi

Ward got $1.85M against Barrera for what it's worth.

Wait what? There's no way he got paid 3.25 for pascal 1, can you link me to a source. It's hard to believe that Kovalev's biggest payday is that much bigger than Golovkin when Golovkin is the far bigger name and draw. But then again Frampton is making like 3m against Leo Santa Cruz :huh.

I know, I was surprised myself. Here are the sources:

Perhaps it's because Pascal is a big draw in Canada.

The reason the fight was on PPV was because HBO couldn't afford to pay GGG AND Lemieux milllions for the fight on HBO Championship, so basically the PPV money went mostly to pay Lemieux who woudn't step in the ring otherwise because HBO's budget isn't what it used to be for boxing.
