He can beat Alvarez. He just needs to get his head straight, stop being lazy, and find a good trainer who will whip him back into shape.
he will be getting in on 36 by the time the rematch happens. no one is physically peak at 36. on the bright side for him, Alvarez is 33 or 34.
You know, Sergey, you did have the right to remain silent when asked if you wanted to exercise this right... Just saying...
the headline is misleading. some guy in his camp said he would. it hasn't officially been submitted as of yet. they do have 5 more weeks to do so however.
Ward is a tortured SOG right now, torn between wanting the pleasure of self-righteously scolding Kovalev while the Russian fails, and paranoid that his resume might be harmed with such losses, particularly real stoppages. The good news if Kov loses again is that Ward might wish to come out of retirement to silence the doubters and get schooled by Usyk. I know we'd all like to see him brutally stopped by a Gassiev or Leb or something, with Kovalev in the crowd, a tear in his eye ... but on second thought SOG's pride is in his 'skillz', so a boxing lesson would hurt more and couldn't be excused away as being overwhelmed by a bigger man's power.
lots of people seem to think Kovalev will easily win the rematch and become what he was before, sorry I just doubt it.
a certain article by a certain mod makes me not so interested in this rematch. this is too all or nothing for me.
its worrying that he has to be reminded to bend his knees, the speed of your mobility relies almost entirely on having your knees bent, you cant move quickly from straight legs. its starting to look like he was so good at what he did and how he did it, at one time, that he never bothered to become an all around fighter. im curious whether he can be put back together into top competition.
any thought of Ward returning came to a screeching halt when Kovalev got stopped legitimately by a feather fist.
there are many titles and if bivol or someone becomes a super champ he can win a regular belt or an interim belt if he doesn't. I see so many diffrentt people writing about how much of a fluke it was but at no point did alvarez fold unlike everyone who seemed to see/hope for it. round 5 and 6 were razor close and I gave them to Kovalev but he was slowing down a lot single shots at a time. Alvarez is also a single half fighter who lands 1/2's at will I'd say Kovalevs best chance is a ko before 4.
The problem is this was not a bad style he fought, his stamina failed and his chin did not hold up. Can he fight differently? Maybe so. He is going to have to stop Alvarez early.
