They must be paying kovalev good money because it's a lose lose to fight hopkins. If he loses his career is basically over, if he wins he gets no credit hopkins is ancient. This fight does nothing for him.

They're already starting to make excuses to devalue Kovalev's win. But Hopkins is ancient.....Hopkins is decrepit.....

I want to say first of all that I have mad respect for Bernard

And that I assume that he sees something in Kovalev that he believes he can exploit to win. That said, he can stink up the house when his plans don’t work. And quite frankly, he can make a good fight a stinker if he wants. Here’s hoping for a great match.

He won't get AS MUCH credit because he's expected to win. Everything in boxing is based around EXPECTATIONS.

And if Kovalev believes he can win?

If Kovalev beats BHops the achievement itself may be belittled, but he still becomes a 3 belt unified titlist, and, most likely (Stevensons lineal title notwithstanding) will be regarded as the World's top LHW.

I mean, really... what was he supposed to do? NOT fight Hopkins 'cos it might bite him on the ass?

It looks like Kovalev is willing to risk it all to (try to) prove he's the top dog.

I know not everyone will agree, but this is the biggest fight of the year for me - ain't got this excited over a fight in a long time, maybe years.

    May the best guy win.:bbb

The flip-side to this is, if Hopkins exposes Kovalev and takes him to school, everyone will claim Kovalev was an unproven hype job.

Not taking it is even worse. Hopkins is the top-ranked challenger. Ducking a 49 year-old? Great for a champ's legacy...

If Calzaghe doesn't get credit for beating him over 6 years ago Kov will hardly get credit for beating him now :rofl:bbb

He should get Credit.Hopkins is still good fighter and definetly top 3 in LHW.

Hopkins is truly an alien, and still underrated.Hopkins is still hell of a fighter.we have seen what he is cabable of,even when he is nearing 50.if Hopkins will lose,it wasn't because he get old over night.it's because Kovalev is damn good fighter.

And yes,if Hopkins will lose.he should retire.doesn't have anything to prove anymore, and he won't get any better.Hopkins is currently fighting for his boxing live.but i bet,Hopkins will put up a hell of a fight and it won't probably be easy for Kovalev. However if Kovalev destroys Hopkins, then he is the real deal.

Hopkins never been KO'ED and only against Jones. JR and Dawson clearly lost.other than that in over 20years Hopkins has always put up a close fight.

Untrue. If he wins and wins convincingly he'll be the official king of 175.

But he might get less credit because Hopkins is old.

What are you talking about? A lot of people, especially europeans like yourself, have crowned Calzaghe as one of the best ever base on that win.

I'm one of the group that will not give him credit, The last man that I give credit for beating Hopkins was Taylor. Hopkins gift and ability are think of the past, only His intelligence and dirty work.

There have been other smart and dirty boxers who would have been beaten into a coma by any half-decent fighter if they stepped in a ring at 49.
