Funny but the op sounds more confident than the Krusher

So this fight is set? Damn this is one fight I can't wait to see. Boxing is getting good again. About damn time. I do not know who will win this fight. Kovalev looks like the real deal. But Ward is good too even if his fights are boring as hell.

Ward is so slick a boxer while Kovalev hits so hard and he's also quick. Kovalev will try to KO Ward from the first round's bell ring.

Ward isn't a power puncher by any means. Nobody has really had to respect his power. That's not how he wins fights. He also hasn't been the larger, stronger man in many of his top fights. Since when does being bigger and more powerful guarantee a win.

He better not play games, else the schooling will be worse.

  8. What big power puncher has ward ever faced and beat in his career who was bigger stronger and technically sound?

Please don't tell me froch, kessler because they are not big ko artists.

Froch, Kessler and Abraham are not exactly technically sound either, neither are they KO artists, or have an elite amateur background, neither are they great point scorers. They are one dimensional plodders if you will. Froch gets by with his toughness, Kessler his jabs, but not as much diversity in their abilities. You think they can outpoint the Krusher in 12 round fight :think

I don't doubt Kovalev is Ward's toughest test by far. But the way you and others on this board play up his physical advantages while ignoring Ward's technical skill and ring savy is ridiculous. Size and KO power don't guarantee a win. People are acting like this is a flyweight against a light heavy.

  11. Look ward is a great technician and has a slick defence I give him that. But just ask yourself, what good did that do for Hopkins?

I know you will say Ward is younger and far better, but it's the same gameplan of trying to out box and nullify kovalev's defence through holding etc which Ward will try to do, not realising Kovalev can box too and still close the range and land bombs on your chin.

If there's one thing we can be certain of, it's that Ward will hold and fight on the inside. He always does. It's what's been effective for him through all of his fights. And it will be effective against Kovalev because...

    1. Kovalev isn't experienced with dealing with inside fighting. All I've seen him do when held is throw alternating pitty pat shots to the torso in hope of 'scoring points' or a punch up top which Ward is so used to dealing with. These won't keep Ward off him.

    2. I don't believe that it's a given that Kovalev is actually stronger than Ward is. More powerful, sure. Not necessarily physically stronger, in regards to max strength, core strength, power endurance, etc. These are the attributes that matter when roughhousing on the inside. So, due to Ward not being significantly smaller than Kov, and due his reliance on the tactic necessitating (one would think, anyway, that his strength/conditioning highly emphasizes strength and stability) the physical strength needed to fight effectively using it, I think he'll be very effective on the inside.

Of course, in order to have a chance to be successful on the inside, you need to get there first. And I think this is where Wards excellent timing, reflexes and footwork come into play.

Especially when Kovalev throws his jab, which is somewhat telegraphed because he often lunges forward when he throws it. He lunges with power shots too, like his straight right, sometimes to the point of appearing sloppy and off balance. I think these punches will give Ward his opportunity to counter and follow up with a hold.

You're aware that Kovalev has literally killed a man in the boxing ring? And that afterwards he has shown little to no calming down in the ring. It seems he got even more sinister and aggressive in the ring after killing somebody.

It's the 175 pound division. Power matters a lot. Kovalev has extraordinary power.
