Roach is an offensive specialist. Kovalev doesn't have the kamikaze swarmer style like Pacquiao or Khan that would jeopardize his defense. What do y'all think?

Lol!! That would be a NASTY Kovalev for sure. I think Freddie is strict enough to keep Kovalev in check as far as keeping focused in his training too. Not that Sergey isn't already... but Freddie would really bring out the best in him.

Yep. Kovalev is a patient guy, but sometimes he can be too patient with his offense. Roach unlocks that and thus unleashes a hell demon into the light heavyweight division.

    Why? How?

Kovalev is not a high volume swarmer like Pac or Khan.

Kovalev has always fought the same way since he started and at 33 he's not going to change now . He doesn't even do what Jackson tells him anyway. Maybe he should for all of our entertainment, switch to Roach like Khan (KO'd), or Virgil Hill (KO'd), or Ruslan who took losses almost back to back to back, or Pacquiao who after 3 fights with the same man got KO'D the 4th time, or the 3 big fight Roach trained guys for againstFloyd Mayweather and each guy had less success than the other. That's who Kovalev needs to be with stat !!!

Roach is overrated. Please get him as a trainer.

    No.

We've already seen the best of Kovalev, probably in the Hopkins fight. He's currently on the down swing. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets stopped in the Ward rematch...

Freddie Roach is an awesome trainer. WAY better than Garcia or anybody at that TMT cesspit. You don't get trainer of the year multiple times for nothing

Roach emphasizes ring generalship and superior positioning a lot so he wouldn't be bad for Kovalev. But I'm not sure much would be different.

Freddie Roach is great trainer but a trainer can only do so much.
If so every fighter he had would be Pacman's. There are
only few examples of champion boxers improving late in
    their career with new trainers.
Lewis and Klitschko with Steward and Pacquiao with Roach.
Juan Marquez yes improved for Pacquiao 4th fight but he had
a strength and conditioning coach with dubious credentials.
