Typical dumb commie comment. The shot that Alvarez took out Kovalev, which was the first knockdown, was a punch TO THE TEMPLE, not the chin. If you know something about human anatomy instead of marching in May Day Parades you would know that the TEMPLE is at least 6" to 8" from the human chin.
Oh come on. You've been following boxing long enough to know that the terms "chin" or "jaw" are metaphors for punch resistance. And it is pretty clear that, wherever the punch landed, Kovalev doesn't have particularly good resistance to punches!
I hate to say it, but I think Kovalev has a weak chin. He was KOed in the amateurs, dropped by Darnell Boone, rocked and stopped by featherfisted Ward, and knocked out cold by Alvarez.
No it isn't clear. There have been lots of boxers who were (are) considered "weak to the body" and get KO'd with body shots. Is that punch resistance, or a personal weakness? The temple shot is devastating...destroys your equilibrium, but K got up. A big chin shot is one and done. Big difference, because your head twists in such a manner to cause unconsciousness. As Khan about the difference. He used to be your avatar WITH A GLASS CHIN.
A fighter's chin doesn't refer to his actual chin, but his overall ability to take a punch, and Kovalev's ability to take a punch is below average.
I think Kovalev is susceptible to an overhand right hand to the jaw. Twice now he's been badly wobbled by fighters not known for their power. Against Alvarez last night who is not a big hitter at all, and from Ward who is definitely not a heavy puncher who also made Kovalev do the chicken dance with that single punch. Makes you wonder what would happen if Kovalev does get hit with a punch like that from a true power puncher. Funny thing is that is Bernard Hopkin's bread and butter counter punch but he never got the chance to land it against Kovalev. Quite possible Hopkins could have been the first to do it had he been aware of that weakness.
A temple shot will scramble the sternest of fighters. However I've always thought that there was a frailty regarding Kovalev, nothing to do with his chin specifically but more his robustness.
Kovalev doesn't take the best punch, that is clear. He also doesn't seem to have the best stamina. Ward exposed him on both fronts. A shame as if he had been given the nod in the first fight he would have been thought of as the P4P #1. Fallen so quickly.
Oh Zakman you keyboard left wing, snowflake is hazard a guess that it may be you who has a glass mandible.
Exactly, that was such a flush powerful shot I have a hard time not picturing anyone dropped from it.
