I give Kovalev an A+ for his performance against Agnew. Agnew did not land a significant amount of punches. Apparently a great offense is a good defense. Agnew mainly acted like a sparring partner. He kept both his hands glued to his head constantly only occasionally throwing a punch. The damage done to Kovalev was the result of fouls. Kovalev does what Kovalev is known for. He knocked his opponent out despite his opponent being in full survival mode and he did it with a jab. Not from a consistent jab swelling his opponent's eye shut but a jab that hurt his opponent's body. I have followed boxing for a long time and that is a rare occurrence, therefore, I gave Kovalev an A+. I think Agnew's lack of offense prolonged the fight. Agnew was certainly aware of Kovalev's near simultaneous counter punches, like the one that destroyed Sillakh. Kovalev's performance is underrated by many because they expect Kovalev to tear through every opponent like he obliterated Sillakh but that is not going to happen in every fight. Sillakh may have been destroyed in 2 rounds but he also has the distinction of being the only opponent to have arguably won a round against Kovalev in a long time.
to me it looked like he was a bit frustrated when he kept hitting Agnew's high guard, if he went to the body earlier in the fight, Agnew would of lasted 4-5 at best, he also took too many counters, though he didn't seem fazed by Agnew's punching power 6.5/10 for me, I'm sure he could do much better
Agnew is an average boxer with zero power. Standing in the ring like a punching bag. Good performance but nothing outstanding here.
Very impressed. Tough guy, big, strong. Dominated the ring completely. Walked his man down, ground him down and beat him down. Totally unfazed by anything Agnew had to offer- southpaw style, early clusters of counters (he soon put a stop to that), high tight guard, occasional fouls etc. K didnt get frustrated, didnt go mad and didnt waste energy, punch himself out etc Very impressed.
