Kovalev's Resume Is NOW BETTER than GGG's. Yet He Doesn't Get As Much Hype Or Credit.

Judging by Nobuhiro's 28% KO ratio yeah I'd say he got lucky, or Kirkland has a little bit of a glass jaw.

Personally I'm glad Sergey was so cautious and methodically outboxed Hopkins because that meant more to his haters, who now are in some cases his new fans than him just going in there and blasting him out in the first round like he probably could have. He dealt a far more impressive psychological blow to many future opponents who thought he had only power and no skill. Well by shutting out one of the greatest pure boxers in the last 20 years and an ATG that'll carry far more weight in the long run than the other. But sure personally I would have preferred to see him go for a KO around the 7th or 8th after he proved what a good boxer was as well. But because he did what he did he now has more respect for skill than before.

by waiting till Hopkins was 43 and gassable, quite. and even then barely won. joe exposed for lacking top skills for half the fight. Hopkins exposed for being old the rest of it.

yup, therei s no blueprint for waiting till someone is 43.

Its a tactic never been adopted before in boxing. and probably never will be.

10 years later really? You think it's an average win for Joe so it must be below average for Kovalev. What's worse if he beats Pascal who lost to Froch and BHOP that'll be the best Kovalev can do....

And Kovalev waiting til he was 50 really puts a feather in his cap.

Two reasons GGG gets more hype. His amateur record and success in Europe caught the eyes of experts. They said GGG was the best MW in boxing even at the time of the Proksa fight. His legendary stories about his punching power equaling HW. Plus GGG has more fights and has been a champion longer destroying opponents. So more dominating fights equals more opportunity to hype. Also having a long KO streak helps!

In terms of CV's, it is real close but that Hopkins win will be the deciding factor because he's a great. Even if he was 50 at the time, he still had two belts and was a live opponent. GGG gets more hype by the way in which he wins. Kovalev destroys people as well and showed he is a much more capable boxer than people think...but I think there's still a few questions over his punch resistance. For me that's the other deciding factor.

If Kovalev defeats Pascal he has the better resume. He already has a hall of famer who was still a live fighter and if you add Pascal in the equation he will have 3 top 5 fighters in the division in Hopkins, Cleverly and Pascal. He would really only need Stevnson to clean out the division. Triple G needs the top guys to step to the plate. Either the Lee/Quillan winner or Cotto.

exactly, Moana, its hardly a great win.

only thing I would add is that KO4clev didn't cowardzaghedly wait till Hopkins was hopefully overthehill, he simply fought him when he was nearly 50. That's someone else you are thinking of - that guy who did it deliberately twice over with ATGs, and therefore has a proven track record for this option.

    1. Your again insinuating that a professional boxer is a coward there keyboard warrior.

    2. Calzaghe beat Hopkins for the lineal championship at LHW and Hopkins was top 5 P4P.

    3. Calzaghe best him inbetween Tarver,Wright,Pavlik, and Pascal.

4.Calzaghe was passed his prime himself.

    5. Kovalev is prime and beat a 50 yr old yet you give him credit for the win.

    6. Your obviously the forum moron who must be upset because Calzaghe banged your mom. That's the only way anyone can possibly explain your hate and that you make all threads about Calzaghe.
