Of course he is past his prime. Have you seen him fight lately? It is still enough to beat the Kovalev that fought Chilemba though.
Well...he isn't exactly past prime. But, he is close to it. He has spent a fair amount of his prime not fighting due to injuries and promotional disputes. He looked prime against Dawson. Against these last 3 tuneups, he's looked slightly less impressive than that. Could be the level of competition, adjusting to the heavier weight etc. But, something is a little different. The guy has been fighting since he was a child. Eventually, it all catches up. I think he has more than enough left to get past Kovalev and maybe 1 more big fight at 175...Stevenson hopefully. Then a couple of title defenses and retire with a great legacy, good money, and all his faculties intact. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Why do you think he's got enough to beat Kovalev, genuine question,is it because he beat Froch so easily,Froch took some beating but still I'd of thought Kovalev another level,he's more than just power and the recent Ward we've seen would suggest he's declined some no?
Well...I did he say he declined a little bit. But, he is still a better boxer than Kovalev. Yes, Kovalev has good boxing skill...nothing special though. His power is special though. Froch wasn't all power either. He could box. Kovalev is a better boxer than Froch. But, take away Kovalev's power and he is not outboxing Ward to a decision. And that is what Ward will have to do...make Kovalev's power ineffective and keep the fight a match of boxing skills. It's been done before. Speed and skill kills. I think Ward has enough of both to pull this off. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
He's gotten a bit slower from his days of 168, I've noticed that. Not sure whether it's his prime or just what putting on more weight's done to him.
I hate how a great fight like this is being turned into a race issue, if you support Kovalev you're a KKK member and if you support Ward you're a black panther. Grow up, stop being so insecure.
He has been flatfooted but that may be a case that he needs to sit down on his punches more to slow down the bigger guys at LHW. 5 years of inactivity between lesser competition can slow you down a bit also. He hasn't needed to stay as sharp as when he was fighting the top guys at 168. It could cost him.
You do realize that other than saying that people who think Golovkin would KO Hagler are on crack (I agree), he pretty much only had good things to say about Golovkin. Even said his resume problems were "not his fault" multiple times.
I never thought Bumlovkin was/is a bad fighter. He's talented. He's not the second coming of Ray Leonard or Archie Moore - but - he's a good fighter. It's much too bad that his opposition has been abysmal and - from the way things are going - we'll never get to see how good he really is..
