Kovey's (quite doable) road back to greatness...

I'd make Bivol vs Alvarez. I'd Call Alvarez promoter and say "we wont force the Kovalev rematch but you have to agree to fight Bivol. the winner of Bivol Alvarez would be the SUPER champ for WBA. then have Kovalev vs Browne or Joe smith for the WBA regular title. then Have Kovalev fight mandatories and win for a couple more years making good money.

 

Kovalev wouldn't be the betting favourite for even one of those.
Also Alvarez does fight on the inside and is younger than Kovalev so saying his age and no power is why Kovalev wins is odd. Also not powerful he punches hard enough to knock out kovalev lol

 

Stevenson is a better pure boxer and has straight punches and speed and better inside skills if Kovalev doesn't run him over in 3 then Kovalev is undressed badly.
Alvarez if he can weather the storm and Kovalev doesn't change his style it's a repeat. Alvarez has superior inside skills as seen in the first fight when Kovalev went to hold barrage of body shots. Kovalev will be warry of his right.
Jack way better on the inside smother Kovalevs attack being the same age as Kovalev doesn't mean you are old Kovalev is an older 35...
Beterbiev if he loses he'll lose before round 2, if he doesn't he will Kill Kovalev that's a horrible match up maybe the worst for him.

 

I've been one of his fans, but he has eroded quite a bit the last couple of years
Maybe do the rematch economize his energy for UD and get one good last money fight with Stevenson

 

He's physically and mentally finished. He's no longer an A side. Unless he can walk away, he is destined to merely be a name on younger fighters resume.

 

I agree with this mostly I think he could win certain fights but I don't think he can win vs most of the top 5.

 

The problem is his age, he is set in ways. I thought he was changing after the Ward fight but seeing his new coach berate him after the fight tells me he is still the same guy but difference is the fighters around him look at him like food now.

 

Geez really? the only thing left to do is cash out with one more fight

 

He looked like a fighter moving into the shot neighborhood. His age and fading is evidence of that..

Kov was one of my favorite fighters for years. But I’m ok if he packs it in.

Was positive he would have smoked Adonis a few years back. Now? I’m not sure he would hold up to some of his clean shots.

Ward rocked him to the chin, and obviously hurt him to the body/genitals. Eleider hurt him to the temple and then blew him out of there. Neither are particularly big punchers.

I think the years of poor diet/training finally caught up to him.

 

top heavy division I think he can pick someone in the top 10 and beat. sounds strongly like he takes the alvarez rematch, if they want it to be a cash out fight then Alvarez vs Kovalev in montreal would get better pay as it will draw more with local intrest. other than that I don't like the fight, if Kovalev is serious about returning he needs at least one fight inbetween a rematch and a GREAT camp.
