Mutually observed civil disagreement is fine by me. That's how all discussions should be settled, if the participants are unable to sway each other at all.
Had Kov retaliated no one really knows what Ward would have done or how he may have reacted? No one knows how the ref would have responded either. Kov was doing his best to show the punches were low by his reactions while also looking to Weeks for help. The way Weeks handled the low blows Ward was landing, should have given Kov a spark to fight back, not pack it in. If Kov was landing the low blows and the ref wasn’t listening to Ward, I can almost guarantee Andre would have responded differently than how Kovalev responded. Boxing is a sport but at the end of the day it's fighting. Sometimes there are fouls...you expect low blows, elbows and head butts to occur as a boxer....but if it's a dirty fight and the ref is allowing things to slide, you adapt and adjust. No one can help you out inside the ring...it's just you and your opponent and that's the mentality boxers should have. If Kov retaliated with low blows and got DQ’d, at least it would have been on his own terms and not left in the hands of the ref. There would also be a stronger case for Kovalev and his team to claim there was unfair treatment by getting DQ’d for low blows and allowing Ward to get away with them.
You really do not appreciate how bad the corruption is in boxing do you ?? This fight , like May/Pac & GGG/Canelo decisions were decided way before the first bell
I absolutely despise the corruption in boxing. But the rematch with Ward and Kovalev could have ended much differently. The first fight I felt Kovalev won, but it was very close....I was hoping the rematch would show one of these men separate themselves with a clear victory. It did end decisively but I think Kovalev was mentally broken by feeling as though his pleading to the ref about the low blows were falling on deaf ears....and they were. It just concerned me how Kovalev reacted to that kind of situation. As a boxer and champion he should have a mean streak that I always assumed he had. Ward has it and I don't necessarily believe he's a better boxer than Kovalev....I think Ward has a stronger desire to win and that's the separation between Kovalev and Andre. Even if you think Dre is dirty...he is a winner and finds a way to get his hand raised.
The only time he has had his heart questioned during his career.....he's lost. Fortunate that the division has been weak in all honesty.
I think it’s time 175 got its act together and these guys start facing each other. Kovalev-Bivol and Stevenson-Beterbiev, winners face each other. I know Bivol is inexperienced and Artur is still evolving, but boy has Adonis swerved around real competition for years. We know Kov will fight anyone, so let’s hope for some good LHW fights in 2018!
