Hilmer was a world champ. You should be so lucky to do as well in your field.

I'm thinking J.L Ivey. Loads of talent. Sent him over to Hawaii when he was either just 18 years old or still 17 to fight world rated roughneck Ralph Aviles and Ivey lost a disputed decision that most thought he won. Said he never really disciplined himself as a pro and thus never got over the hump, but used to a be a tough spar for Camacho and Whitaker and others when they came to Kronk. Final fight went neck and neck with HOF Genaro Hernandez after barely training and then drifted back to Buffalo and the drug trade and got shot and killed at a young age.

And don't forget Leslie "Sweet Lemonade" Gardner, who was a headliner for a brief period of time. Became a journeyman then disappeared into the same dark hole as Ivey and I read that he was buried in an unmarked grave outside of Detroit completely forgotten and abandoned in death.

Kronk had some stories that did not end well.

Sounds like a book in the writing. I too have a bizarre fascination with the Kronk and Manny Steward. https://imgur.com/gallery/QBQhM6x

Steve McCrory - Undefeated Olympic gold medalist travelled to Australia & challenged Jeff Fenech unsuccessfully for the IBF Bantamweight title.

Fenech went on & won another couple of world titles at higher weight divisions. McCrory never contended for a major world title again.
