This video is a year old but I just caught wind of it.

Yodnapa was 43 - and his opponent Daodennoi was less than half of that, just twenty years old. Talk about getting old-manned!

Sawatt is a bit of a legend in kickboxing apparently, had a very long campaign, over 300 matches, and finally retired to be a full-time Muay Thai coach. Then about five years ago he "got the itch" and made a comeback, rather emphatically:

Guy is just one bad ass old southpaw with ice running through his veins. He's so calm and poised before laying these young cats out! Experience matters. :deal:

"play times over." Gets into a serious stance - opens with a high kick, left cross.... Game over!

Yodnapa had probably already long since perfected that move before the kid was off breast milk.

Speaking of young vs. old lion match ups..... Amnat Ruenroeng vs. Nawaphon Kaikanha on the 21st. That fight is too intriguing to miss. I'll be setting the alarm/and or burning the midnight oils for that one.

Eh, really not thrilled about that, kind of worried for Ruenroeng actually. He got absolutely mangled by Tenshin Nasukawa last year in MT. And it wasn't like he was a James Toney or Ricardo Mayorga crossing over to another discipline for money/on a lark after his relevance in boxing had faded; Ruenroeng is a MT OG, with plenty of experience in both sports.

Different rule set and style, and Tenshin is a monster - but still. Amnat looked ancient.

How good is Rungvisai's less talented younger brother though? His only step up in class against Navarrete he failed miserably. Even if Ruenroeng is completely shot it would still be his best win by a wide margin

Oh he really isn't very good at all. That's my issue; he doesn't deserve to be fed the corpse of Ruenroeng and have such a deceptively glittering name on his record.

Could still turn out to be competitive. That's why it's intriguing.

I hope so. If there's anything left in his tank and Ruenroeng doesn't just get steamrolled by the younger, bigger guy, we could be in for a very gratifying schooling. Kaikanha is ass compared to his record.

Yeah, Lethwei is brutal especially old rules. No weight divisions, no gloves, fighter allowed to continue after being KTFO, head butts, no winner only draws etc. But in terms of technique compared to Muay Thai in Thailand it's in the dark ages, basic as hell. The guys in Burma fight with minimal skills but huge heart. I've seen many fights in Thien Pyu stadium in Yangon. The lack of skills is to be expected, only a handful of gyms with a tiny pool of fighters. It just cant compare to the well oiled industry that is MT in Thailand.

If your not familiar check out Tway Ma Shung I recommended him on this site about 5 years ago at the height of his reign, he's still to my eyes technically the best they've produced, but I think that's because his style is so Thai based, more like MT less like traditional Lethwei. Lots of his old fights on YouTube. This is a good old one against a bigger guy.

Yes Lethwei is more raw savagery than MT, which is a very technical sport that requires a lot of thought and timing

Very brutal, thanks for the video mate I'll have a look

Where do you rate Samson Isaan in the history of MT? very exciting fighter & very fond of punches unlike some other Nak Muays

Although did you see palongpol v johmod the other day they done straight boxing for a few rounds

Samson Issan defo top 20 ATG, which if you consider to golden age top 20 is the elite of the elite. Raw forward balls out pressure, everything you'd hate to come at you in the ring, your right he favoured hands. Most Nak Muay's in that age didn't favour punches because they weren't scored.

I didn't didn't the Jomhod boxing vid, although Jomhod looms large for me in my Muay Thai life, He destroyed one of my first MT trainers Tim Izli in the mid 90s....one of the first Thais I'd ever seen fight when I was a teen and young in the sport. Saw him fight live twice a few years back in two similar bouts the the thread opener. He fought Somrak Khamsing in Raja, that was the nostalgia fight that started the trend that we hare witnessing with fights like the one thread fight. It's kinda played out now in Thailand, bit these guys need the cash, all these ATGs coming back to fight at seemly any age. I posted the Poot Lorlek vs Sagat one in a thread the other day....Poot was over 60!

Yeah Issan was lethal and hard work for anybody. Punches still aren't really scored in MT today are they? I love MT in general but I do like it when fighters utilise there hands in there fights

That Lethwei fight was very good, decent fighter to watch

ATGs either fighting at silly ages, or you get the guys like Saenchai, Sittichai and Banchamek fighting around Europe , all great fighters though

Poot fighting over 60 is madness
