Krzysztof Wlodarczyk vs. Pavel Melkomyan

Does that fact alone indicate that Krzysztof himself knew that Pavel was his boogeyman and that it wasn't just a case of being underprepared or taking him lightly? :think

Fair enough about the butt. The ref can deem the source of a cut any time at his discretion, though, can't he?

Can you isolate the single punch from Wlod that caused it and rule out it having been a butt?

Also - yes, he's slow-starting and coming on strong in the 2nd half is his forte. Getting the starch knocked outta him and beaten out like a dusty old rug in the first third of fights, however, was NEVER his forte... This wasn't just a case of getting the gears warmed up. Melk was fairly dominant through four, in a way you hardly ever see even in world class opponent for Wlod.

 

Yeah but there was a little gap of a couple of years after Wlod could have rebuilt his confidence but still before Melk's decline.

A short window, I guess. Just frustrating it didn't happen to give us some closure.

 

Plus, you have Klitschko vs. Brewster II - where obviously Wlad didn't give a damn how faded & irrelevant Brewster was by that point, he wanted to avenge the loss at whatever cost. :yep

I mean, FFS, even a somewhat embarrassing win over Palacios made Diablo feel obligated to set the record straight in a rematch. He strikes you as the kind of guy that would feel the burning need to avenge the loss.

Essentially the pertinent facts are

1. He went in with a left elbow injury, and had surgery on it afterwards.
2. After rehabbing the shoulder, there were plans for a Wlodarczyk vs. Melkomyan II in November of 2003. Obviously that never materialized for whatever reason, but Wlodarczyk did want it and was confident of victory.
3. Doctors had told Wlodarczyk that if he waited even six months to have surgery his career would have been over.
4. He deeply resented having the black mark on his record and felt that by the end of their contest, Melkomyan was afraid of him.

 

Hey man - weird coincidence, I was actually marveling over Abdoul's record last night just looking at how many names he was in with and having only ever been stopped by Włodarczyk.

My understanding of the situation is that it would have ended up a draw or narrow for Włodarczyk by one point...and that it may have looked a little quick but could have resulted in a very brutal knockout had the ref not stopped it.
