No need. He's already beat him in one of his many mythical match ups. I believe Haye's record today stands at 78-0-2 when you factor in his mythical match ups. He is the ATG head to head monster after all. :deal
I'm feeling more and more confident in picking Pulev. That sweet jab is going to put a hurting on Sasha. Look at what Chambers' did to him, until it was abandoned. (DLH style)
Pulev breaks him down & wins a wide decision If he really goes for it & displays half the aggression Huck did, he'll knock Povetkin out
You guys need to realize that Pulev was fully aware who & what he had in front of him and just how little movement was required to beat him. Conserving energy by minimizing wasted energy against a big and powerful guy (even if they're plodding and devoid of skill) is a fairly sound method to prevent gassing and getting caught with something stupid late - especially if you're letting your hands go pretty liberally. Yes Ustinov brushed him with the odd chopping right, but after having felt the first couple of those Pulev decided he could full well take them - especially blunted as they were with his lean-back reflex-based defense. He took the calculated risk to allow Ustinov those brushes in order to gain virtually unlimited access to his face with that julienne jab. He completely mangled Ustinov's face over the night, almost solely on the strength of that versatile left jab (which he can use as a rangefinding stick or snap out in multiples for accumulative epidermis-rending effect, or as a single stun-gun blast to set up a big right hand landing sight unseen) As immobile a target as Ustinov's face was, Pulev had to be in close enough to reach up for it with the jab in order to inflict all that damage. Being close meant Ustinov would get a few licks in, but Pulev's chin & combination of different defenses (occasionally using high-guard, slap-parrying, or leans back) were enough to ensure that Ustinov wasn't planting any game-changers on him. Pulev could have gone untouched, IMO, and won a boring decision from outside. Instead he gave us about as exciting and dramatic a match as Ustinov is capable of being involved in, and forced the big lug to say no mas. I don't see how you could be unimpressed with Pulev yesterday, tbh. :conf
People are letting Povetkin's disgraceful Klychko ducking and the Huck fight where there was some extraordinary conditioning anomaly where he was gassed after 4 rounds blind them with regards to Povetkin's skill. Against Chagaev Sasha only had a 3 week training camp and came in at a career high weight yet he still had no problem throwing 60+ punches a round for 12 rounds. I still don't know how he looked so terrible against Huck but Povetkin is not garbage like so many like to claim. In a Pulev vs Povetkin matchup Kubrat would try to use his size, jab, and athletic footwork which allows him to dictate range to keep the fight on the outside. The majority of the time i suspect he would be able to that with Povetkin occasionally getting into midrange and letting go with fast, short hooks and uppercuts which he is very good at. Povetkin would mainly have to rely on counterpunching to generate offense and he is a pretty good counter puncher. He has a short hard right straight, real good left hook and after landing either of those as counters he closes distance and follows up with his very good uppercuts and hooks in combination when at midrange. One flaw Kubrat has and it may be a reason why his punching power isn't as good as it could be is he throws very wide looping punches which takes longer to reach the target. His left hook is very wide and he almost never throws a straight right hand it's almost always a very wide overhand right. Besides the jab those are his main offensive tools and the way he delivers those punches combined with his hands down reflex based style would give Povetkin plenty of counter punching oppertunities. Being realistic i don't think a fight between these two would be a blow out. I would favor Pulev about 60-40 and could see him maintaing a fight on the outside with his jab and footwork being the main tools for success.
Butt and Usyk, very analytical posts. This is the quality of Euro section. For round and a half i saw very different Povetkin from the last couple of fights, specially better movement, better defense and far more targeted strikes. I am pretty sure he will be even better in his next fight. Working with Kostya is a big plus. About Kubrat, as everyone from Sauerland is amased, he shows his best against stronger oponents. He always do what it needs to secure his win and if he may hurt his opponent - he do it. I would like to see sort of Euro vs North America contanders among heavyweights. Here for example the possible match ups Alexander Povetkin - Deontey Waylder Kubrat Pulev - Odlanier Solis Denis Boytsov - Johnathan Banks Vyacheslav Glazkov - Bryant Jennings Magomed Abdusalamov - Seth Mitchel
Thanks Ogii. One criticism with Pulev earlier is when fighting worse opponents he would sometimes fight down at their level just doing enough to win rounds but like you mentioned as his level of opposition has increased he seems more motivated and performs much better. I wouldn't want to see a big tournament like that because i would rather see alot of them get Title shots against Volodymyr but in theory.... Eerrrrrrr sorry but Povet was on ***** street against cruiserweight Marco. Pulev will demolish him and make him breathe heavy. :rasta Also Pulev's GF is hotter than Povet's, that says a lot about the boxer. :hat
