This fellow Kubrat Pulev, I read some about that he had beat Tony Thompson and this Alexander Ustinov fellow so I thought that we might have us a brand new legit heavyweight contender but then I watched them videos of those fights. We all know Tony Thompson and judging by the glimpses that I saw of that video Kubrat was clearly winning that fight, the problem that I had with that performance was all that hand swinging that Kubrat was doing, why on earth swing your hands like that? It's just stupid. Kubrat may have beat Thompson impressively but so what? Styles make fights, you can't judge a fighter based on one solid win. Then there's the Ustinov fight, again that shitty hand swinging bull**** also it didn't really look to me like Kubrat was winning that fight too comfortably and this Ustinov fellow, he's just some smaller version of Nicolay Valuev, he really aint ****. The Alexander Dimitrenko fight is also worth taking a look at, Kubrat is much much more dominant in that fight but his opponent is also poorer but still, this guy certainly isn't no offensive or defensive genius. To his credit Kubrat obviously has a good chin and good stamina and he isn't vertically challenged. ****, this is one of the top contenders at heavyweight? What's with this division? Is there some law of physics that states "The bigger they get the dumber they are"?
Are you mad? Kubrat is a solid and well rounded heavyweight. His main asset is a terrific piston jab, that he likes to abuse and to troll opponents with it. Plus he has good stamina and a solid chin. For all of those reasons, he's avoided by the others heavyweights. But his best value may be his mindset, he's determined, humble, and fears nobody. Let's hope he'll have his shot at the champion as soon as possible, it's a shame that the belt organizations have held him so inactive.
Don't bother trying to argue with fools. he's just one of the many "names" of the same, attention-seeking cretin.
He does do an awkward thing of leaving his hands out extended to try and block shots. Kind of reminds me of the 2nd Rahman fight and when he tried it with Lewis, so Lewis just threw hooks instead of straights and knocked him clean out. He's not a pretty fighter to watch, awkward boxer if anything. Though he has a nice jab and right hand. He is the current top contender he's earned that spot rightfully and unlike so many Wlad opponents has actually earned his shot. But he doesn't impress me at all, in a stronger era he would be a fringe contender at best, but then you could say that about every current heavyweight not named Klitschko.
If Pulev was that bad and easy to beat Wlad would have fought him long long time ago. Klinch fought Alex Leapai saying the Australian was no joke atsch. BTW, except for Povetkin, who was the last credible opponent Wlad had fought? And the Povetkin fight was anything but a boxing match. Pulev is very awkward and his main weapon is also Wlad`s main weapon - the jab. Pulev is 10 pounds heavier than Wlad, only 2 inches shorter and has better stamina than Wlad. Also he has better chin and he is 5 years younger. Wlad`s advantage against Kubrat is his experience and his heavy punch. But let`s not forget that the Bulgarian had more than 200 fights in the ams. Don`t get me wrong. I am not saying Pulev will beat Wlad but at least he has some chance.
He's a great fighter, no doubt about that. Very smart not to go after Thompson early, just staying close in the rounds, knowing his home judges would keep him in the fight, then lay it on later as Thompson began to slow. VS Ustinov.....he made a giant employ the little man "bum's rush".....when you can get a guy 4 inches taller than you to lunge with his jab, your shuffling those feet just right. Very underrated footwork. VS Dimitrenko, yeah, he abused Dimitrenko with his jab, which, like Wlads, is very damaging at times. BUT..................... He more avoided b/c he doesn't have $$$$ to bring bigger names into his arenas. A guy like Fury can fight a Maddalone type and make 100K headlining a worthless card. Why would he go to Pulevs backyard for 50K???? A guy like Solis, while he getting big $$$, can keep beating the Saglams and Airrichs remaining relevant and get a title shot(maybe not anymore). Same goes for Jennings.......he coulda fought Adamek for 100K, and TURNED IT DOWN. Like he'd go overseas for 50K and no TV exposure.:rofl As for Adamek going over there......come on......cmooooonnnn.......He's eventually gonna get a shot at the WBA title. As a voluntary or otherwise. He doesnt need a big win to make 6 figures. He puts @sses on seat by himself. :nono
You arent the only one to read about how great he is only to go on and not see WTF everyone else see's in him. Pretty good but nothing special. I was expecting alot more from all the hype i read about him. I read story after story about how so many fighters ducked him yet the reason behind has nothing to do with pulev himself and everything to do with giving guys short notice and expecting them to fight for peanuts. I think his promoters do this to keep his name out there.
You mean like the six months Adamek had to prepare for Pulev only to end up pulling out of the fight saying he has a better deal... and ended up fighting... Dominic Guinn? Or do you mean the 6 months Tyson Fury had knowing he'd have to fight Pulev if he beat Cunningham for the world title shot? Or do you mean the 2 months Jennings had with a 6 figure offer to fight Pulev for a world title fight?
I myself watched his fight vs Thomson and Wlad will destroy Pulev he has great jab but Wlad will neutralize that and Pulev will be clueless, and I'm not Wlad fan.
Pulev beats any heavyweight not named Klitschko. He's legit. From a styles perspective I don't think he matches up well at all against Wlad, but he's not an easy draw for anybody.
Pulev may not posses the most attractive style but he is avoided as f*ck. And this is for a good reason. After he stopped Dimitrenko and Ustinov nobody wants a piece of him. He just scared everyone with these two wins. If you are looking for excitement in his fights you may get disappointing at times but if you know boxing then you would know that right now he stands a better chance than everyone else against Klischko.
He beat the guy that just recently adopted two sons, the cuban hopeful Solis and the british hopeful Price. Best heavyweight in the word aside from Wlad right now.
