    Well in this case having the promoter sitting ringside shouting his wishes to the ref (and implicitly the judges, though I feel they did fine with what they were given) didn't help.

    That ref looked like he was a mid career type, can't imagine he's sitting on enough to retire. What's it like being in his shoes? I believe refs are paid through the sanctioning body, but of course what the ref does affects if that promoter decides to have his next money guy go a different route (WBO instead of WBC, move to America, etc).

    If he sides with Pulev at a critical moment, is he he going to have to make a living reffing in Bulgaria?

    It's these conflicts of interest baked in to boxing that make it so hard to fix, even if every single person involved wants the fight to be fair and never says otherwise.
