Then he says he can't comment on it despite commenting on it before and then after. Very odd. Starts telling Dave Allen off like he's a child. Is this to stay in the good books of Brick?
As well as Team Dubois as he'll want an interview from them at some point. Although it's not great journalism I do have some sympathies for the position that a dedicated boxing journalist finds themselves in. If they're too independent they'll be considered to have bit the hand that feeds them and their livelihood can be threatened by a decision from Frank or Eddie. Dillian Whyte for instance took exception to Bunce asking him about a failed test and refused to speak to him for years. Bunce had enough irons in the fire for it not to be too damaging, but when Whyte was up for big fights it definitely impaired his ability to do his job. He kissed his arse relentlessly when the feud was finally settled. It's one reason why reporting on British Boxing improves the more it moves to the print journo's who don't exclusively cover it. When the Benn test failure story broke it wasn't our trusty boxing journalists at work and whilst the story attracted the interest of the non boxing press we started to get the lid lifted slightly on the whole rotten edifice.
Allen is right he has the grit and willingness to die in the ring and if you don't have that it's a very tough place that ring. Dubious doesn't have that Ali die in the ring mentality but he's not really had a fight where that grit would get him through he was always finished beforehand. It worked out for dubious with his eye against Joyce and it was the logical option. And regardless Usyk had him even if he had that do or die mental strength or not. It's human nature to have a survival instinct. Some boxers disregard it in the pursuit of this bloodsport which is special. Anyway back to the reporter could be worse Ellie Seckbach. Even by boxing's standards that Cassius fella is reptilian. A real muck stirring opportunist with no journalistic talent or integrity whatsoever. Literally a ''have you heard what the guy said about you?'' snide. Has respect for the fighters apparently unless they're 112 pound and then the threats about bashing in brains start from big bad Koogs. Thank fook he's drifted into the background as the quality of people getting involved in his genre increased. At one time the guy seemed to be pretty much the PR department of Matchroom.
I heard he was paid £500 per week by Hearn but that may not be true - read it online a few times. The most amusing thing to me is his brazen and enduring association with Mr Kinny with iFL TV proudly presented by every iteration of Mr Kinny's boxing brand... Macklin's Gym Marbella, Mack the Knife Global, and now Goldstar ('headed up' by Spencer Braaahn the man who has been instrumental in formal the relationship with the Saudis...lol!)
He won't be alone there. Every major promoter will have benefitted from KGM, MTK and Goldstar at some stage and claim it's at arms' length through the boxers rather than a direct association. But it's been rumoured for years that IFL was bankrolled to some small degree by Hearn (to the extent they travelled together to shows more than once) and of course Box Nation is the equivalent for Queensberry now, from the days UmarIFLUmar was the designated Warren correspondent. I can't bear most of these channels now as they're just gossip mongers. Only really tune in if they interview someone interesting.
Should any of this surprise anyone? Kugan has always been a tool, and doesn't seem overly bothered about wanting to prove anyone wrong in that regard.
Of course not. He's just a bouncer whose head has got big from all the money he got from having no expertise in anything. The weirdest thing is that he was a bouncer. He might be 6'4'' but he is a total wimp. Although back then he was a fat **** lol!
To his credit he found a gap in the market about 12 years ago but now he just comes across unprofessional. Constantly coughing on video, poor footage and crap questions.
Cant believe Kugan is still knocking about tbh. How is he even still relevant? The game has plenty of media platforms now.
He's using his goodwill he generated from years and years ago. People consider him as the original YouTube outlet so he's built fake friends from that within the boxing circle. He's a pathetic interviewer. Always has been. However saying that, the idiots like Louis Hart, Oscar Bevis and Parsons are tragic as well.
