Struggled against 46-years-old Amir Mansour whom Filip Hrgovic and Efe Ajagba demolished easily. Looked awful against shot David Price. Looked awful against journeyman Joey Dawejlo whom much smeller Kizmin's countreyman Andrey Fedosov defeted easily. If you are 31-years-old anf constantly struggling at top-50 level, you can't be considered as a top-prospect. Hell, you can't be considered a prospect. To be borderline top-30 heavyweight is Sergey Kuzmin's ceiling IMO.
He MIGHT be able to slide into the top 20 if he chooses his opposition carefully. I think based on his fight tonight and others he’s hopeless against the big three and stands little to no chance against some of the better boxers in like Parker, Pulev, and Whyte. His only route to ya title shot imo is to get lucky like Molina or target brawlers and pressure fighters like Kownacki, Breazeale, Joyce and Miller, who while I still doubt he beats and aren’t necessarily inferior to the other fighters I mentioned, but are much more favorable match-ups for him stylistically. He’s utterly overmatched by a lot of other prospects coming up in terms of potential, so he should get a move on, especially at age 31.
If he was going to do anything, he would have done it by now. There are two dozen or so prospects coming up, about a half of which are better than this guy. Missed his opportunity.
Said from the beginning of his career he wouldn't amount to anything more than an entertaining puncher/gatekeeper. I was wrong, he's not even that entertaining. Say what you like about Joey Dewejko, always a tough awkward opponent who puts fighters like Kuzmin in their place. Lets not forget he also took this fight on 2 weeks notice.
Because I had a bunch of people telling me, he was a solid talent that was going places, and I told them he wasn't. And it is A BOXING FORUM WHERE YOU LEAVE YOUR OPINIONS.
It was clear in the David Price fight, that he wasnt all that much better than Price. Price is around top 40/50 in the world at HW. I think we can file Kuzmin now officially under not very good. Probably around top 30-40
I want to see what are @houmzz thoughts about the fight. He really convinced me a couple of times that Kuzmin is above the average but this fight was saying the opposite.
Yeah don't know where Kuzmin goes from here. He's been disappointing as a pro and will have to be very carefully matched from now on.
