Round 1

Stimela/Sitemala is pressuring, intelligently but steadily maneuvering Hobyani against the ropes with double jabs up top snapped out stiffly from a tight guard and mixing in spearing right hands downstairs. Hobyani countering where he can with jabs buried into the guard and some grazing left hooks on the waistband as he ducks and leans to his left while passing by. NICE 1-2 by Stimela/Sitemala, hurting Hobyani and forcing him to hold on. Hobyani jabs defensively as he is backed into the corner, and is caught by a pinpoint line drive right hand on the left eye socket.

Commentators describe Stimela/Sitemala as "buttery smooth" and say his style is reminiscent of Lucian Bute.

He looks good but I'm not sure I understand the comparison.

 

Round 2

Stimela/Sitemala is putting Hobyani wherever he wants, employing a very strong jab. Hobyani just spoiling & surviving. Stimela/Sitemala is digging on the body, underneath Hobyani's elbows, and cracking his bald dome wherever he sees a legal scoring area exposed. Stimela/Sitemala patiently letting his educated hands find the mark, and the damage accumulate.

Round 3

Hobyani is starting to sidestep and dodge the jab, putting in counter jabs & pecking rights into Stimela/Sitemala's chest while slouching over into his range but staying below his strike zone. Stimela/Sitemala is throwing combos but hitting the backs of Hobyani's arms. The journeyman is showing off some of his veteran tricks now, taking most of Stimela/Sitemala's offense against his back, rolling inward either way, and peppering the body with light shots.

Round 4

Stimela/Sitemala is reinvigorated by having been taken somewhat to school in the previous round, and is determined not to be made a fool of again. He is loading up on shots but also taking very careful aim, setting traps with feints, and shelling the body to force Hobyani to drop his guard - and countering every lazy Hobyani jab, even if only with a grazing check hook. Stimela/Sitemala is whipping the body and is caught by a right hand thrown by Hobywani with his back on the ropes. They are blasting away in a phonebooth, missing, both too close to get full extension on their shots.

Round 5

Stimela/Sitemala is pressuring without punching, letting Hobyani lead, turning & cheating his body clockwise to absorb the Hobyani jab on his left bicep and then clipping him with pull-counter rights while unspooling. Stimela/Sitemala is starting to crack Hobyani with short combinations breaking through his guard and backing into a corner. Hobyani clinches. Break. Stimela/Sitemala is unable to do any work now at closer than medium-long range without Hobyani snatching at his elbows and yanking him in & tying up. Hobyani slinks into a corner and then leaps out sidelong, jabbing in a spritely crab-walk and then diving in to hold.

Round 6

Stimela/Sitemala is putting in steady work, but the commentators are saying he needs to make a more definitive statement with a guy facing his dozenth loss. Stimela/Sitemala does seem to be stuck in second gear, fighting down to Hobyani's level. Tit for tat, lots of this being fought on the inside for lengthy stretches, which favors Hobyani with his brawnier physique and penchant for holding & hitting. That said, dominant edge in connects for Stimela/Sitemala, especially with his body shots bypassing the points of the elbows as Hobyani pins them down to his sides.

Round 7

Stimela/Sitemala is working in combinations, jabbing his way in and trying his best to pry Hobyani's arms from his chest with crowbar uppercuts. Hobyani is still being negative, working off the ropes, pawing double-jabs and diving in to snatch at Stimela/Sitemala's hips and then spin him out. Point taken from Hobyani for holding, without a warning but still deserved. Hobyani keeps dancing away, flipping up counters as Stimela/Sitemala lines up straight combos while chasing after him, unable to pin him on the ropes for more than a moment.

Round 8

Stimela/Sitemala is just windmilling the right in behind the jab now, flying it like a kite on the way in, telegraphing but knowing there's no danger of a spiteful counter from Hobyani. Stimela/Sitemala is just stalking and jabbing the body from outside, working combos when he gets a moment inside. Hobyani turns southpaw and swats at him off the ropes with right hooks, then plows into him to wrestle and buck him off a few paces.

Solid learning experience for Lunga. Hobyani is probably difficult for anybody to look good against.

Nicholas Radley vs. Khayeni Hlungwane, 12 rounds @ light heavyweight

 

This is for the vacant African light heavyweight title.

Radley is a 6-0 (6) prospect but is 33 years old - as is 8-13 cruiser Hlungwane.

 

Round 1

Hlungwane is rolling his upper body in place while adopting the Philly shell, jabbing cautiously at Radley from medium range. Hlungwane is prodded in the chest a few times by the Radley jab, as the lanky man nicknamed "The Natural" also starts out very tentatively, keeping rhythm with Hlungwane as they circle and only pushing the jab out sideways after turning himself away. Slight connect edge to Radley in jabs, neither has thrown anything in terms of power.

10-9 Radley, not much in that.

 

Round 2

Hlungwane is jabbed in the forehead and backed into the ropes as Radley starts to crack the right hand in like a whip, landing between the gloves and stinging Hlungwane. Body shots mixed in by Radley, and Hlungwane is receding into even more of a defensive shell, creeping along the ropes, flicking light jabs at the body as Radley sizes him up with the jab and scores a step-through uppercut. Radley pump-fakes a right hand, aborts it and steps in with a left hook. Radley is jabbing down into the face of Hlungwane and drilling down with the right hand, and Hlungwane turns his back to him while exaggeratedly slipping shots along the ropes.
