If you've ever seen Welliver fight, he gets no leverage on his punches and hits almost exclusively to the body, it's a miracle he gets any stoppage wins at all.

He always looks really out of shape, even when he comes in under 240. It's obvious he once weighed over 300 lbs as he's not toned at all and has flabby skin everywhere, not a pretty sight. :dead

Gegard Mousasi whooped Kyotaro in K-1 pretty much exclusively with his hands. And he's an MMA fighter.


I for one am surprised.

 

You haven't seen Welliver fight then...

 

Mousasi is also undefeated under kickboxing rules, and even dropped Kyotaro in their fight if I'm not mistaken

 

Earnie Shavers was about the same size. Joe Louis was ten pounds lighter. Marciano thirty.

 

You ever seen K-1?

 

You shouldn't be. The gap between a heavyweight boxer's hands, a kickboxer's hands and an MMA fighter's hands is really not all that great in today's day and age. Former kickboxer Matt Skelton was crude as hell, even by K-1 standards, yet made a successful career in boxing. This is a guy that got dominated, outboxed and KOed in one round against Jerome le Banner back when he was still in his prime.

 

Lol Ray Sefo was Koed in round 1 by an annonimous six rounder.

 

Fair enough, I know Welliver is ****. Just interesting to see how this worked out.

Wonder if this means we'll see more K-1 guys try and make the jump. I know Badr was about to before all his recent legal troubles.

 

And Skelton became Commonwealth champ and fought for the WBA title. Some fighters transition better than others. Skelton had nowhere near the hand skills of Sefo which is clear if you've ever watched them fight. Sefo's problem was, a) he was a big fan-favourite in K-1 and therefore didn't take boxing seriously, and b) he was a clown who routinely dropped his hands when he got tagged, which occasionally caught up with him.

 

I 've watched both and I'm a fan of Ray Sefo (I watch regularly K-1 since 2001 and still ejoy a lot), but the hand skills between kickboxers and boxers are miles away.Also other kickboxers based in boxing like Mighty Mo have failed miserably in the first levels of pro boxing; LeBanner go to decision with Kimo's level guys...

Huge talent pool differences.

I wouldnt take the Moussasi fight to heart. Kyotaro had already fought that month (december) at the WGP against 4x champ Sem Schilt and did nothing but party for 3 weeks than took moussasi on short notice at the new years eve dynamite show. He got in trouble in the first round and a bit but got his timing back in the third and was starting to pick moussasi apart but alas it was a 3 round fight

 

I didnt even know his opponents.Commonwealth means nothing.And of couerse Chisora would wreck Skelton.Some six-rounder beat Ray Sefo.
