Oh yeah, forgot to mention - Fujimoto vs. Ishida II headlines a triple-header of Japanese title bouts. (the other two being Yukinori Oguni's first defense at 122lbs, and Kota Tokunaga vs. Yuya Sugizaki for the 135lb title vacated when Yo****aka Kato retired)

Kato hasn't retired! He's wanting to get a world title fight this year and is said to be focusing on that.

Oguni is fighting Furuhashi who ALMOST fought Otake (Otake got injured about 2 weeks before their scheduled fight and ended up vacating to fight Quigg)

Ah, my bad! I just assumed because he dropped the belt (Kato vs. Arakawa being non-title) and is now 30 with over a decade in the sport he just decided to ride off into the sunset on a high note.

A world title opportunity would certainly be a higher note! :D

Was talking about fighting Linares IF Linares is allowed a voluntary. Oguni and Fujimoto are act stablemates with Kato...and I think Sugizaki is (or at leats one of the guys in the Lightweight title fight is).

Would you give him much of a chance versus Linares?

...and if he doesn't get that shot, and if Sugizaki beats Tokunaga, would being stablemates prevent Kato from challenging him for his old title?

No chance against Linares he doesn't have the skills or power needed to trouble the Venezuelan. Tough and smart fighter but technically limited... Does fight to his strengths though.

It would prevent him fighting for it. Sadly for him the Japanese champion at 140, Hiroki Okada, and at 147, Suyon Takayama, are also his stablemates... I suspect he'd hunt an OPBF bout. Maybe a rematch with Masayoshi Nakatani at 135, or see if Keita Oabara vacates the OPBF at 140 (Obara would near do kill Kato)

Yeah, from what I remember Kato would be climbing uphill with Linares, who just has a little too much of everything for him.

I don't see Kato being stopped, though - or even shut out (since Linares hardly ever puts in full nights' worth of effort). Probably a 117-111 range UD.

Bad move for either guy... They could milk some more easy regional wins, before getting a bigger fight. Parker KILLS either guy. I'm scared at the thought of Parker/Ishida especially.
