Well to be fair, Kyoguchi is still the main event and is being televised later in October whereas the Kyotaro bout probably won’t be seen at all lol. It’s pretty shambolic but I sometimes feel bad for the heavyweights in Asia because it’s gotta be fairly difficult for them to find willing opposition.

Edit: not sure about the main event anymore but I am fairly certain I read that Kyoguchi’s bout will be shown at a later date on TV

Yeah, no, I didn't mean whatever scraps of tape-delayed coverage they give the card on TV a week later, that's pretty much irrelevant, almost nobody bothers to watch boxing after knowing the outcome a week later. (could somebody please let Japanese channel execs know that?!?!?)

I meant, on the actual day of (so, in a few hours), at the venue, apparently Fujimoto vs. Kalalek (which as of the weekend still was Fujimoto vs. :nusenuse:) has top billing over Kyōguchi vs. Monabeda, which is bananas.

Nah, even Bulldog McCreary would demolish Kalalek (aka "Kajornsak Saikaew Boxing Camp"). The guy was battered pillar to post for ten rounds by a flabby, green, slow, pillow-fisted Indian cruiserweight:

We're talking about an ATG Indian CW here though, one of the best ever from a sub continent of over a billion people!

As for having a hard time finding solid opposition for Asian heavyweights:

    a) while I'm not a fan or advocate of the practice, the sport of boxing has a lengthy tradition of guys competing for regional belts for which they shouldn't on paper qualified to vie...ie Nigerians going for a Caribbean title, or Argentinians for a Slavic title, stuff like that. We as fans are pretty desensitized to it and usually just shrug and chuckle along with it...just saying...they could fly in somebody from pretty much anywhere, still label it an OBPF and WBO Asia Pacific title match and nobody would bat an eyelash...
    b) isn't that whole eastern half of the former USSR a fertile breeding ground for heavyweight boxers with plenty of high-level amateur experience? Isn't a lot of that considered technically part of Asia? :deal: (Kazakhs, etc)
    c) why don't they just make Fujimoto vs. Zhang and get it over with? Cash 'em out before some journeyman doesn't get the memo he's supposed to lose and deals somebody the major setback of an ignominious, jig-is-up defeat.

Fair point. And look, for his next bout Singh is fearlessly rematching a guy that he KO3ed in the guy's debut (he's now 0-1). Talk about fast-tracking! Roll over, Lomachenko...

I bet Singh's mysterious abundance of virility and boxing prowess must derive from that carefully groomed triangular patch of chest hair, like Samson or something. It sure has the look of some kind of sacred talisman.

Because they’re cashing out every time they box I think. I think there’s probably a lot of reluctance to try and risk a fighter’s record. Heavyweights are probably not very common in these countries, yet are associated (wrongly I might add) with knockouts and action by many casuals. If you actually made them fight top level opposition and have decent bouts, the financial risk would be tremendous for both parties.

I don’t know, I’m not really trying to defend it, I think it’s pretty shameful and would much rather see the Asian heavyweights fight one another and legitimize themselves so someone may actually come out and prove themselves to be decent and not just a built up conman, but I can see why it doesn’t happen

Solomon Haumono really did knock the ambition out of Fujimoto.

This bull**** will be going on in a few hours, sans TV (so don't bother looking for a stream anywhere); I'm off to bed ...WAR KALALEK!

A-sign Boxing has uploaded Fujimoto’s last few bouts so with a little luck we might see this bull**** on YouTube in the next few days

:lol::lol: beat me too it. Fujimoto vs De Mori is about as dangerous as it gets for this samurai. Leapai, Meehan and Goodall would retire him.

He's run out of Aussie journeymen to fight. Those 3 you mentioned are far too tough for him. Suprised he hasn't moved onto the NZ journeymen yet. Next fight maybe someone like Daniel Tai?
