    Wow! I was convinced it was going to do 2m. First reports were that it did and i was thrilled and even gloated a bit on calling it. wow its a bit disappointing.

    With all of these figures floating around who knows what to believe, I predicted around this number 1.3 mill, 2mill seemed like an amazing success, 1.3 is decent but considering Canelo did similar with JCC Jr I have to say it was just par for the course really.

    Not going to Cotto and Chavez Jr. any credit in helping sell those paperviews?

    Canelo only generates big numbers with established names. Cotto brings a lot of PPV buys with him and so does Chavez Jr.

    Canelo with non superstar opponents:
    350K Canelo with Angulo
    300K Canelo with Lara
    300K Canelo with Smith

    Canelo's numbers are barely doubles GGG's PPV numbers when they fight guys that aren't household names. Without a named opponent Canelo averages around 300K, but with GGG he quadrupled what he normally does.

    Purses of 80mill and 30mill each seem pretty far fetched now

    UFC can still claim to be the no1 combat sport in the USA too

    Lemieux is a household name in Canada and was well known in the USA

    Jacobs had one of the best feel good stories in the sport and he is a clean cut all american lad.

    Jacobs and Lemieux are 10x the draw of Lara, Smith and Angulo

    Lemieux vs Jacobs would probably do 160k ppv

    Canelo sold:
    300k with Liam Smith

    Golovkin as the A side sold:
    150K with Lemieux
    170K with Jacobs

    so it's about 2/3 Canelo and 1/3 GGG against no-names. So out of 1.3m, 850k is thanks to Canelo and 450k due to GGG. There are arguments for this no matter what agenda you are trying to push.

    Had GGG fought Cotto, do you think it would have been 170k? No, it could have reached 500-700k just due to both being stars.

    Wonder what Golovkin/Saunders will do in the UK?

    It's difficult to believe that anyone watched Void/Conor with Conor's 0-0-0 record..................incredible fools.........

    1.3 million is pretty solid imo. The rematch you would imagine will generate slightly more, maybe 1.5?

    According to the article, Canelo-JCC did 1.0 million.

    Which means that the only PPV that Canelo has ever been in that exceeded GGG-Canelo was Floyd-Canelo.

    List of Canelo PPV's by date.

    Floyd-Canelo ------------> 2.20M
    Canelo-Angulo ----------> 0.35M
    Canelo-Lara -------------> 0.30M
    Canelo-Kirkland ---------> Non-PPV
    Canelo-Cotto ------------> 0.90M
    Canelo-Khan ------------> 0.60M
    Canelo-Smith -----------> 0.30M
    Canelo-Chavez ----------> 1.00M
    GGG-Canelo -------------> 1.30M

    Without a bankable name opponent, Canelo does about 300K-400K buys as a draw by himself.

    That quadrupled against Golovkin, which says a lot about GGG's drawing power. Golovkin is the only fighter currently fighting who could lift Canelo up to that buy rate. At least at this time.

    After the Lara bout, Canelo fought Kirkland on regular HBO.

    Like Golovkin, Canelo needs a name opponent to be a significant PPV attraction. Otherwise he's not spectacular as a draw (in a historical sense), at least up until this point in his career.

    1.3 mil is very good. Yeah its not 2 mil but 1.3 mil buys for two non English speaking fighters is impressive. A rematch would generate more as well.
