Lack of British multi weight world champs indicates a lack of skill?

I think we don't have many multi weight champions cos are fighters drain themselves and fight at the wrong weights sometimes.. Just my opinion on the matter..Hatton only went up for the money...:good

Haye is a good one though..

 

Fitz was born here. Not too many 168lb Americans that have won titled at 154, beaten an 180lb fighter for the Heavyweight title and won the light heavy title well into twit 40's:yep*







*Fitz was an American citizen and had spent much of his life in NZ at the time of the win

 

This. Although I have to say that this 'obsession' can occasionally prove counterproductive.

Back to the topic a lot of Brits could've won titles at lighter weight classes but moved up early for a number of reasons; even now the likes of Groves & DeGale could both probably make middleweight, BJS could definitely make lmw at the very least, Booth could still make bantam or lower etc etc

 

Someone said it.... British gyms focus on 'havin a tear up'... BJS will be a World Champion weight climber.. Degale will aswell. As much as i like Gavin and his skillset, he will be a multiple weight euro champ/domestic champ... I dont think the concussive power is there, especially if he goes to 147. Bellew will win titles at Light Heavy and Cruiser i think (and im not like most on here who lick his arse, thats my honest opinion).

 

I don't think 'concussive power' is integral to succes RyDogg. I also hate to think how fat BJS will be if e goes any further, he should be at JMW as itis.

 

There is some truth in that. Too many brits rely on bullying and strength to win and not skill or boxing brains.... that being said Haye, Khan and Calzaghe are or in Khans case (in my opinion) will be fighters that can move up in weight well because there skill levels are very high.

 

I think Khan will be a multi-weight world champion. He can easily move up to 147 and then 154.

 

Pretty much only the best, most skilled fighters can be competitive in many weight classes. Also they tend to have unique physical attributes. Take the recent ones for example.

Mayweather - you cant hit him in the ass with a handful of rice
Pacquiao - Just a freakish physical specimen whos quite elusive himself especially againt fighters who aint fast.

The UK being a smaller place than the US or some other countries will likely have less multi division champs. Amir Khan is probably one who can go up a few weights because he is young and is still quite big for his weight class. Paulie was a decent size 140lber and khan was dwarfing him in the ring. At the moment his is a solid 140lbs but can see him moving to 147 after 2 years.

 

What i meant.... Paulie Malignaggi is equally as skilled as Frankie Gavin ever will be IMO, which is no disgrace infact far from it.... But like Malignaggi... Fighters in the upper echolons of 140 WILL walk through his jab and force him to trade... which is where concussive power comes into play... Gavin doesnt have the power to earn respect, imagine Urango vs Gavin... The difference in skill level is MASSIVE... Gavin would outbox Urango senseless... but theres nothing to fear, he wont get knocked out by Gavin so he'll punch thru him and force him to trade, moreover where concussive/respectable power comes into play!
