It seems that most people when discussing the Golovkin vs Canelo fights, don't understand who has true control over who. Every punch has a purpose, nothing is thrown at random, people look at the fight at a very basic level.

Golovkin controlled Canelo for 10 of the 12 rounds in their first round and about 8 of the 12 in this fight (lots of improvements making it harder to control Canelo), however, it doesn't mean Golovkin capitalized on his control, this is especially apparent during the first bout where he was able to control Canelo but struggled to hit him clean many times, Round 1 for example, he was controlling Canelo, but he didn't land anything significant in that round, Rounds 2 and 3, he lost control and was getting out-boxed in those.

In this fight, the reason why Golovkin was able to slip and dodge a lot more (don't make the false-assumption that this means his defense is perfect) was because he controlled Canelo. I think a lot more people would have given him more credit for the way he fought if his name wasn't Golovkin.

Golovkin did not control Canelo last night. There is no way at all that GGG wanted Canelo taking centre ring

Let me be more specific on what I mean by control, I'm not talking about control of space, or where the fight is going on, I'm talking about control in terms of knowing what punches are coming and setting traps for them. I have never seen Canelo miss as wildly as he did last night. Some of the shots that stunned Canelo were baited traps, too bad it takes rounds to set these traps.

Something I noticed towards the end too, Golovkin was suddenly elusive. Which is a shocker really. We saw a counterpuncher try and be the aggressor and the aggressor, although we knew he has excellent boxing skills, was seen circling his opponent and boxing for the first time, no chasing someone around the ring but he wasn’t the one being chased either.
I only saw the fight a few hours ago so the impressions are still pretty strong, will have to rewatch to notice more details but it was a beautiful fight from both of them and something nobody expected to see.
Canelo may be the more talented and naturally gifted of the too, but damn Golovkins locker is packed of good stuff.

As I said, I’ll have to rewatch it but first time around it seems like a close win fr GGG. In fact, draw seems very reasonable too, which goes to show what a ridiculous decision was the draw in their first fight (#****adelaydebyrd)
