at the time of Lacy / Taylor how about Kessler Froch Bute Andrade Calzaghe (who had not retired yet) Inkin Pascal ? probably not Balzsay at that time but then again maybe a lot more fighters depending on your take on the Lacy / Mendoza fight which I would have to rewatch. I seem to remember myself thinking the result was BS in some way but I don't remember that well. actually to really get into it you could start picking at Jeff's resume pre calzaghe never mind post calzaghe. What are - sratch that - were - we - scratch that - you people - ranking Taylor so high for? Because he is the most famous? Two fights with Hops many consider he lost. Same with Winky. And career welter / junior middle Corey Spinks I would say if you took a poll, might be the most convincing loss of them all. Two losses to Pavlik. Like I wrote earlier its not only who you fight but how you perform. He gave all of these fighters very good competition but he hardly was dominant in there. Surely not enough that you just go, oh wait everyone, here is Jermain Taylor, all these fights that you have been making for position and recognition, well, you can all get pushed back a notch or two now, Taylor has arrived. I wouldn't put Pavlik that high if it was him either. Well especially after the BHop fight. Maybe The answer really is that they should'nt have any rating until they fight someone.
People can move up in other ways but I don't think you debut a guy at the very top of the division unless he is incredibly good in the ring every time against the very best. That isn't Taylor.
If Taylor dominated his opponents at 160 I would say so, but he has so many contoversial wins, he doesn't get to skip ahead of everyone until he earns it. He didn't look stellar but Lacy was a solid win. Now with the Froch loss, I think you got to still keep him in the top ten. He showed he belongs at 168 amongst the best even in a loss. In a way, in my book at least, the Froch fight helped him earn a high spot at 168.
Wake up to April '09 man... Inkin isn't even a belt holder any more... he lost it to Balzsay several months back.
i understand what you are saying, but he is better than most of the top ten and the ranking officials know this so why waste time putting him low and have him work his way up. no2 was high and if i were a top 5 smw and was pushed to 6 because of a mw coming up i would be upset to say the least. number 5 is where i would of put him though, until proven otherwise.
If Taylor wouldnt always fade down the stretch I believe he would still be undefeated. His fights all start the same and the last 3 or 4 rounds are a coin flip. Look at the Hopkins fight, with the right punch Hopkins could have won both of those fights. Which would have made JT a nobody in boxing. If boxing was a 6 round sport Taylor would be P4P number 1 lol. But even after the Froch fight I think he belongs at 168 its just he has a late round stamina issue that if he doesnt get under control he will find himself never holding a belt again.
