You heard it hear first. :hey This fight is not the foregone conclusion that most seem to think it is. Why? Not because Lacy is that good, but because Taylor is, and always has been, an HBO-created fraud, grossly overrated by many boixing fans. He has YET to beat ANY top level MW convincingly. All his "wins" over world class opposition are either questionable gift decisions over aging greats (Hopkins), bogus "draws" (Wright), or debatable victories over fighters coming up from lighter weights (Spinks, Ouma). Add in a win over a shot William Joppy and victories over the usual suspects, and you have Taylor's record - HARDLY awe-inspiring.:-( Lacy has not looked the same since fighting Calzaghe, but he's not fighting anyone close to Calzaghe's level. He has the size and the punch to do to Taylor what Pavlik did. I would not be at all surprised if Lacy knocks Taylor out, frankly.
I'll give you this. You make a bold prediction! But the difference in skill and resume is way in Taylor's favor. Taylor has fought a who's-who of MW fighters. Lacy's biggest name was against the man who humiliated him. Taylor takes this in similarly embarrassing fashion.
The hatred for Jermain Taylor surely clouded your judgement. I am sorry but Jermain beats this second- rate zombie really bad.
Jermain Taylor has fought 5 fights vs top 10 p4p guys in his last 7 fights...He's been super competitive and all of those fights coulda gone either way. Lacy, on the other hand got absolutely wrecked by Joe Calzaghe. Jermain Taylor would certainly have a competitive fight with joe...Albeit, he'd likely lose. Since Calzaghe, his skills have seemingly worsened. He's been lucky to get decisions vs C class fighters in his last 3 fights. Also, and IMO, one of the most overlooked facets of this fight is the fact that after the mendoza fight, JEFF LACY RETIRED!!!! He was basically sick of boxing and wanted out. 1 day later he's offered a million dollar payday and is back in the game. IMO, it's pretty obvious he's just looking to cash in 4 a 1 million payday and then leave the sport after taylor sparks him.
Lacy has looked lackluster in his recent fights, actually pretty bad to be honest. Taylor on point is still an elite level fighter. His problems have been mental, not physical. I expect him to be very focused for this fight and he knows he needs this victory to get back into game and start establishing himself at 168. I expect a Taylor late TKO victory.
I've always been known for my ballsy predictions, Suge. When I first got here, I was one of a small group of posters who picked Hatton to beat Tzyzu, one of like 2 who picked Sprott to starch Fraudley. Something just tells me there's gonna be a LOT of people surprised this weekend!! Taylor is NOWHERE NEAR as good as most boxing fans seem to think he is. HBO has y'all fooled.:yep
I think Lacy is very live in this one, he is due a good showing. I smell an upset. The only way Lacy can win is by KO The only way Taylor can win is by decision. I'm on board. Lacy KO 8.
Although Taylor has struggled with opposition much smaller than Lacy in the past, Lacy is just too shot for me to agree. We saw yesterday what a crude slugger should do to Peter Manfredo. Lacy also got a pity decision over Mendoza, and possibly Tskypo too if i remember correctly. He also was nearly stopped by Mendoza, his chin isn't that great, neither is his defense. Not that Taylor is the second coming or anything, but his quick hands should allow him to batter Lacy. If Taylor can't manage to stop him it won't reflect well on his ability. Though if this pick comes off much respect lol, i see where you are coming from, i just think Lacy is simply too shot.
Hollywood Boxing Office has hardly fooled me...I broke it down on the most recent edition of On The Grind Radio, like I have several times in the past in my posts. DiBella and HBO made Taylor champion, but their illusion did not diminish his skills...or prevent him from pursuing future championship glory. The guy can do it for real this time.
