I watched the Calzaghe LAcy fight last night, i thought i would after i saw a must have been drunk dumb ass, stating that he had Lacy losing by a single round and that Joe was lucky because of his slapping. Now no body in there right mind would give Jeff a single round surely, that was awful in that ring, joe dismembered him, but thats another story and not the point of this thread.

The reason i'm writing this thread is as i watched the fight last night i wondered something between rounds 9 and 10. During those rounds Dan Birmingham asks Jeff if he wants to go on, and Barry Mcguigan at commentary states that Birmingham may take him out of there in the next round. I know Lacy showed the true heart of a champion carrieing on that fight to the death, trying everything, but if Birmingham had have taken him out at round 9 / 10 do you think Jeff would have been as bad as he is now?? Another way to put it, do you think the last few rounds of that fight could have ruined Jeff Lacy??

I Don't Rermember Lacy Saying All That ... I Just Remember Him Giving Himself And His Chin Credit For Not Getting Knocked Out And Disputing That Knockdown That Happened In The 11th Or 12th Round.

Unofficially Was A Push But Fatigue Made Lacy Go Down ...

Calzaghe Didn't Ruin Lacy ... I Happen Think That Lacy Was His Own Worst Enemy ... He Got Caught Up In His Own Hype And Thought That He Can Knock Everyone He Faced Out!

As You Can See During That Fight He Kept Loading Up On The Big Shot And Every Time He Got Set ... Calzaghe Teed Off On Him And Offset His Attack.

But Unlike Normal Opposition ... Calzaghe Didn't Stop Punching Afterr 1 Or 2 Punch Combination, He Kept Going And At Times Threw 10-15 Punches In A Single Flurry.

Most Of Those Punches Didn't Land, But Enough Did ...

Add To That Lacy Got Behind Very Fast And Had No Other Alternative But To Go For The Ko ...

He Hurt Himself ... But I'm Sure That He'll Be Back --

well to be honest i dont always listen or agree with what 'boxing purists' have to say, there not always rite about everything.

I'm not buying into any hype, the fact of the matter is Lacy showed signs in his previouse bouts that he could challenege the elite level and possibly KO joe in his backyard. The main reason i think this was because the fact Joe had been down before to lesser opponents namely Mitchell and Salem. That additioned with Jeffs youth, many people thought it was a recipe to Joes downfall. Now i'm a joe C fan, have been for years and followed him long before the Jeff fight.

Give Jeff some credit he showed true heart of a champion that night, and his next fight single armed against Tsypko, which i personally thought was a fix for him.

So all of the predictions on the above pages were made by fair weather fans not purists?
I'm no doctor but I think you're showing the symptoms of Lacy amnesia, you should get checked out.

Edit. It seems as though Bodysnatcher was thinking the same thing.

Calzaghe didn't ruin anything. People just need to wake up to the fact that Joe in terms of skill is no. 1 p4p. Lacy lost because of that and because he froze and tensed up fighting away.

Listen to a recent interview by Andrade - he says that people don't realize how much it matters fighting in front of 30.000 fans or foes.

That is why Lacy lost. Since that fight Lacy has fought like expected. Yes, he had a draw with Tsypko, but Tsypko is better than anyone Lacy met before Cazlaghe. It is really not complicated at all. Lacy was thriving on the US tour and matter of a fact is that in middle and above the US tour is not the strongest. Mostly it is dominated by Europeans. And below 154 it is dominated by Latinos.

Lacy should have gotten a real test before Calzaghe. Reid was shot to pieces - everyone in Europe knew that.

He could have met Veit, Tsypko, Inkin, Braehmer etc etc. All of whom would have been tough for Lacy.

For example Pemberton was not bad, but in terms of competing with the best-tier or second-tier Europeans he would not have a chance.

I watched 5 Calzaghe fights before this fight came up and I went with Calzaghe. That ought to tell you alot about where Lacy was at that point in time.

A good banger and popular but beyond that he had alot of work to do.

All in all every loss is a loss. They all stay with you no matter what else happens. But that loss was a hard one. A literal blowout. I don't think anyone saw that coming.
