I think its unfair to say that, he beat some decent opposition on his way to winning a title before the Calzaghe fight. He tore his left rotator cuff and now is pretty much a one armed fighter because of it. Similar thing happened to a british fighter called Dean Francis, he had much more potential than Lacy back in the day, but he damaged his shoulder i think it was, and became a one armed fighter, and never looked the same again.
99% of American boxing fans "KNEW" that Lacy was never that good! Only problem was that they didn`t know that BEFORE the Calzaghe fight.
Lacy TKO Calzaghe. Lacy is a beast. Add to that he spars with the best southpaw middleweight in the world, Winky Wright, and I seriously doubt Calzaghe will bring anything to the table Lacy can’t handle. Look for him to put a serious hurt on Joe whenever the two get into their heated exchanges. And because of the Englishman’s affinity to these kinds of exchanges, I have to think he’ll play right into the hands of the younger, stronger man. I doubt the fight gets past 7 or 8 rounds. It's quite telling that the only guy with any sense is named Cocks. I don't know what that says for the rest of these guys.
It just goes to show how many people never even watched Calzaghe box before. Having seen both fighter's box my predciation was that Calzaghe would expose the over hyped, one dimensional and completely untested Lacy. I never saw anything impressive about him. The 168lb Mike Tyson comment by Shaw was one of the most laughable thing's i've ever heard.
They must have tried hard to find those few people to pick Lacy. The rest of America knew Lacy was ****
One of them thought that the Englishman was gonna get KOd in 2 Good post BTW. Nice to remember what people really thought of the fight before claiming how **** Lacy always was
Don't think any of us ever claimed him to be Willie Pep or SRR... I Just wanted to see what happened when hits someone flush with that "Left hook". (Nothing more, Nothing less)
Despite the troll I will respond. Lacy was never that good, but he had a lot of support and hype in the US. I think alarm bells were beginning to sound when he fought Reid, but many here ignored it because Lacy scored a knockout even though the way that it happened was pretty shady. I know I'm not the only one that had serious doubts about him when we saw how effective Reid was against Lacy. None of that takes away from Calzaghe, though, because he's a great fighter and scored a virtuoso performance.
Who gives a **** about Lacy? who gives a **** about Calzaghe? they are both bums and very overrated!!
