Roach in mauling charges


A Filipino-American friend of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, Gregorio “Greg” Asuncion, has filed an “unlimited” civil case against Freddie Roach, over a mauling case take took place at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, which is owned by Roach, on October 20, 2008.


The state-run Philippine News Agency said Asuncion, who works at LA County Sheriff’s Office, was at Wild Card on that day, because he escorted Pacquiao from The Palazzo apartment to the gym.

Asuncion was then asked by security chief Rob Peters to leave, because Roach did not want so many people inside the gym. Apparently, Pacquiao was busy preparing for his fight with Oscar “Golden Boy” de la Hoya.


Asuncion said Roach hit him as he was preparing to leave the gym.

“Suddenly Freddie hit me from the back of my neck . . . so powerful that I fell on my knees. He told me to get the hell out of the gym and I said okay,” Asuncion was quoted as saying.

The Filipino-American said he called 911 for help and was given a neck brace and put on a stretcher before he was taken to the hospital for treatment
