mad that it seemed possible back then.

she is literally a hall of famer...just walk. be old but talk young.

Exactly.....something that wasn't worth the time of the real boxing fans but we had to pay attention because it involved an icon/legend of the sport.

I guess the silver lining is that unlike the Tyson/Paul match up, this fight won't be fixed to promote the greatness of the younger competitor.

The depth in women’s boxing wasn’t great then, it’s not great now either, but the depth was 100x more shallow during Laila Ali’s career, which flattered anyone who was better than the rest.

Based on how they look, Shields looks noticeably more skilled to me, but it’s very hard to say who wins because of the depth which makes it hard to compare how they did at the same level.

The depth of shields heavyweight division. Just want to point out the quality of it. I know boxrec rankings can be off, but they can generally be in the ballpark

    1 Shields 17-0. 3 KOs 30 years old
    2 Danielle Perkins 5-1 2 KOs 42 years old
    3 minellis Blanco 6-0 6KOs 24 years old
    4 Giovanna Gonzalez 6-3-1 4 KOs 35 years old
    5 Annie Mazerille 8-3-1 1 KOs 41 years old
    6 Trish Vaka 1-8-2 1 KOs, 39 years old
    7 Genah Fabian 0-0-1, 34 years old
    8 Sequita Hemingway 4-6 0 KOs, 43 years old
    9 Times Naga 3-3-1 1 KOs, 37 years old
10 Diana Collardo 16-38 5 KOs, 39 years old and 1-8 n her last nine

That's how bad and devoid of talent her division is.

I've been hearing for decades that women's boxing is coming up, the groundwork has been made, and it's about to explode. The truth is, it's always going to be a very niche sport within a niche sport. Seems like every 5 years I hear about a GWOAT who barely has any challengers and/or will avoid challenges. I'm sure in 2030/2035 someone else will drag out the gimmick of "best woman of all time", like how James Bond is played by different actors over the decades

im saying this now that any lass who is in any form of shape and is over 170lbs should be signed and put in a 2 year career padding process.

on a different note. i think shields should fight Dezurn II. and build it later into next year.

get the next gen of middles from the olympics into the mix. the talent is there just a complete lack of connect of am to pro. honestly get Bylon, Ngamba or Qian in some pro fights monthly you would have a base for a 168+ round robin come next june.

    saying that though

truthfully though. the division isnt so much empty it is just places where if given enough resources a fighter can nab a belt and claim world champ status in the distance.

we just have too many titles and no unifying 'grand tournament'
