Do you know that the Nigerian kid was one of the worlds best amateurs, and an All African games medalist... That wasn't just any old no one, he is a capable cat who was a ringer to be honest.. Lamon shoulda asked somebody........
Brewster is getting **** on by some people in this thread. He was a good fighter and one of the elite fighters around the middle of the decade. Good chin, hell of a chin and recovery abilities, and good power makes for a very capable HW. It's not like he was a Douglas who had only 1 big win, he stopped Golota early which was a nice scalp, and took out Krasniqi who was a solid fighter at the time as well as engaging in perhaps the fight of the decade against Liakhovich. There was a brief period where he could of been argued as the number one fighter in the world, give him respect. He was never an ATG or anything close but he was a good tough fighter.
Unfortunately, Brewster has always relied heavily on knocking out his opponents...he fights in a style where he is susceptible to losing a decision if he is unable to knock out an opponent.
I'm glad I haven't read some of the comments about Brewster in this thread going by Muchmore's comments. He is or at least was a very good fighter in his day who ducked nobody and was in some up and down thrillers. He's past his best and a bit lazy nowadays and this was always going to happen, I just didn't see it happening last weekend.
Agreed, but he has taken far too much damage to keep going. He relied on his chin too much, and now he is paying the price. Detached retinas are bad enough. I hope he doesn't end up totally punch drunk. He is a nice guy who needs to protect his health at this point.
he was a good fighter, brewster looked in sparring partner mode for most of the fight, like he was getting payed for the session and trying to cruise through
Just watched the fight. Bewster looked his normal self. This kid he fought is just a capable fighter. Lamon relies heavily on knocking people out and these Nigerians are generally fine physical specimens with good chins. Tough S.OB. like Lamon just fought are always gonna give him trouble because they are durable. However, I stand by my earlier statement that Rahman is a more accomplished fighter than Brewster.
Brewster is a slow handed plodder that doesn't have near the talent of a prime Rahman. You watch much boxing or have any athleticism at all?
Agreed. Detached retina is a very problematic injury. Brewster has done enough already to be respected as a fighter. Unless he needs the money or is getting a big payout in a one-off fight (such as coming in because of someone pulling out of a fight late) then he should call it a day.
