I imagine that Lamotta would be able to make this weight with next day weigh ins... His power would be more effective at this weight class, and he would retain his speed and chin... I don't think Mayweather has ever had to deal with an opponent that had Lamotta's style... Sure, he's had to deal with guys who come foward, but none of them had the same stance or defense that Lamotta had... Sure Lamotta had a great chin, but it was the way he approached his opponent and took away their range, that contributed to his victories... Or in other words, it was his defense as he came foward that forged his offense... Mayweather is certainly a great fighter, but how would he deal with this type of fighter? Honestly, I think Mayweather lacks the power to keep Lamotta off him, and the he doesn't have the legs to pot shot enough to win a decision... When Ray fought him, he would throw blistering combinations to steal rounds, hitting hard enough to at least gain Lamotta's respect, and then used his legs to move away... But this was also Sugar Ray who is rightly regarded as the best ever, not only for his abitilies, but for his heart and determination... While Mayweather probably doesn't lack heart, he's also never been in with an opponent that had both the SKILL and the WILL to make him fight... Lamotta has that ability... And while it's outta Floyd's best weightclass of course, how would he fair?
Is it too hard for you to comprehend? ****, let me break it down... You see this mother ****er from the past is fightin this mother ****er from the present... Who wins... Ya dumb mother ****er....
"Floyd by lopsided decision. If Sugar Ray Robinson can outbox this guy, than no doubt Pretty Boy would put a clinic on his ass. Remember, LaMotta only fought one way, and that's going forward, like a bum." - Rooney
Wasnt Lamotta a middleweight who had to drain himself to maike the limit? Why would you even consider this fight?
One thing to remember: In LaMotta's day you had to damn near kill your opponent for the referee to stop the fight. Today they stop it as soon as someone gets a bloody nose. So if LaMotta fought today he would have more stoppages. If Mayweather fought in LaMotta's era he would have less stoppages. Just something to consider. :deal
wasn't JMM a Lightweight who had to bloat himself to make the limit? why did even consider that fight? much less take it... but anyways, i'd take Lamotta, he stays on you 3minutes of everyround, and Floyd simply doesn't has the firepower to stop him from coming forward..... not to mention Lamotta was excellent at getting around elbows and digging to the body, so even against a defensive wizard like Floyd, i still believe he could let his air out downstairs, and slow him down in the later rounds on route to a stoppage not to mention, Lamotta's just far bigger then Floyd...i mean, Ray was a big, tough guy himself....and physically they weren't even in the same league, and of course they're clearly not the same type of fighter, but they do have they're similarities...and like the thread starter said, it was those vicious combo's that got Lamotta to stop in his track and got Ray the rounds aswell, i'm talking 8-10 punch combos to the body and head...Floyd just simply isn't capable of that but...on the other hand, with Floyd's defensive style, he could lay on the ropes and make Lamotta overexert himself/punch himself out and that would really kill his stamina when you cope that with his weight problems.....much like it did in SRR-JL 6 but even then you have to consider the variables in Ray and Floyd's game, which the biggest one would be Ray's willingness to sit down on his punches and throw devastating combos then (attempt to) get out of the way, and like i said earlier Floyd would never do that also, while Robinson was on the move he was unleashing a series of stiff jabs and long uppercuts, now again.....Floyd has a quick jab, but not a very stiff one, i dont see it having much effect, not to mention he doesn't use it often enough and lets not forget that Robinson was a good deal longer as well taller then Lamotta.....Floyd is not but i'd say the biggest deciding factor is.....Floyd has very little heart, he wont even fight todays WW's, so why would any1 believe he would have so much as a chance against an ATG larger fighter of any kind? Jake by late TKO
LaMotta was nothing. He has little power. He was a one handed fighter, his rigth hand was none existant. This fight would be like Hatton - Mayweather, just LaMotta would take a few more shots, but take them well. For all his faults he was durable. Mayweather wide UD.
Lamotta couldnt make 154 even if he lived in the harshest region of Ethiopia for 6 yrs training for the fight, the man started at LHWT. Mayweather is better p4p Lamotta is better H2H Too much size & power here, far too much.
