KP is 26 years old. One of the things I dislike about fantasy match ups between young guys and old legends is that with a past great we have their entire body of work to look at. Cut Lamotta off at age 26, and a different picture emerges. He had 12 losses, and had never won a world title. It's like this: After Pav beat JT the first time, we had several Pavlik/Haglar and Pavlik/Robinson type threads show up. What did I say? I said, "Let the kid have a career before you start matching him against all time great middleweights."
Jake would grind Pavlik down and stop him. People don't realize how tough these old fighters were. Many of them were not pampered like today's athletes are.
I've come to believe that the Rubio fight is a no win situation: damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. If Kelly comes out, unleashes hell on Rubio, and just 1-2's him into a short and brutal KO, lots of people are going to say it's the same old Pavlik ... didn't learn a thing from the Hopkins fight ... blah, blah, blah. If Pav boxes a few rounds and lets it go say 8 rounds, lots of people will claim KP "struggled with Rubio." It's a no win situation.
Poor boy will have to suffer with multi-million dollar fights because he "is just not that good". atsch
Yeah I see your point but dont think just because people discuss these matches its because of hate..I think Pavlik fans should be honoured that Kelly is being matched in a fight like this. Have a go at thunder if you feel thats his intention but you have basically gone out and indirectly called me and others "haters" because we stated a different opinion to you, to that I take exception. Also..Jake still beats him at 26..I think Jake had actually achieved more at that stage anyway having beaten Willians, Robinson, Basora, Zivic, Satterfield, Bell among others. Kelly stayed unbeaten for so long because he faced a very low calibre of opposition early on compared to Jake, he was brought up a lot differently. I dont think the fact he had an 0 for longer makes him better.
I will give him credit and I'm sure some realistic people will.Unlike Cotto he is fighting a ranked contender who won an eliminator and deserves his shot.It will be a good win but nothing more.Depends on the manner of it.
Another factor is that guys coming up today don't often do crazy **** like take fights that are 2 weeks apart.
Yes,that's why I agreed somewhat with booradley.Jake still; beats him at 26 IMO.But that being said Pavlik was brought up pretty hard himself. He fought tough guys very early on.
