Not really, not compared to Lamotta. Brewer was a good fighter, well would go on to become a good one but its has been documented how short the notice was he had for that fight. Other than that it was pretty **** poor.Even when he stepped up they were guys who complemented his style nicely..But I aint knocking Pav for that, thats the game now. You cant afford a loss these days, you have to be carefully managed or the powers that be and fans will drop you in a heart beat. But you cant fault Lamotta to harshly for having all those early losses..Considering some of the guys who inflicted them upon him and the frequency at which he was fighting. It would be unlikely if Lamotta was around today he would have those losses, as he probably would be managed like all fighters are these days and fighting only 4 or 5 times a year instead of 10 or 11 times.
I picked Pavlik by UD. It'd be an ugly fight, but Pavlik punches with enough authority that a primitively sloppy fighter like LaMotta wouldn't be able to get inside.
how lammotta at 5'8 and 160 is a samall man that 6 inces in height and more then 6 inches in reach. lammotta im sorry would be at a disadvantage in this fight he has heart but the ref stops this on cut you do know lamotta had been tko'd by lesser men the KP right? kp is just to big to strong and afast i would say lamotta was tough and his skill are underrated but this is a style disadvantge aswell as a a physical
Like who? The only person who legitmately stopped him in his prime was Robinson ..If you are saying Sugar Ray Robinson is lesser than Kelly Pavlik than I suggest you should get tested for down syndrome. Kelly is slow for an elite level fighter, this was well and truly proven by a 44 year old Hopkins. Jake was able to hang with Ray Robinson's speed and skill for 6 fights, beating him once and coming close a second time. The kind of speed and skill that is far superior to Pavlik's. Lamotta had the strength and physical build of a light heavyweight of the day..He started and ended his career at lightheavy and beat several ranked lightheavyweights in his career. Kelly is taller, there is no disputing that but his rake thin frame is really no bigger than Lamotta. And Kelly has yet to prove he is all that strong outside of middleweight, he does not hold the kind of size advantage that is enough to deter Jake. As for style disadvantage...Ill say it again Lamotta would waste no time in getting on the inside, he would not even attempt to battle a guy like Kelly at range. As disadvantaged as you think Jake is by Kelly's height, Kelly would just as badly disadvantaged by having to punch down on a man who would crouch and dip his way under his shots. Who would crowd him for punching room negating his height and his long range shots. Pavlik would try to sharpshoot him from the outside and would have some success..But he posseses neither the skill or versatility to implement that game plan over the long haul against someone like Jake. At some point he either has to give ground or trade with Lamotta..Kelly would try to battle him on the inside and epically fail. And I have never ever seen him display the kind of movement, speed or ring craft that he would need to outbox Jake. Now that Kelly's height has been dealt with and his outside punching stifled, the only thing left is his power. As I said before any man who walked down Bob Satterfield will have no problem with Kelly Pavlik's power. If you think Kelly would beat him fine..But I suggest coming up with better reasons than that, they are weak at best. "Kelly is just to fast" :rofl
LeMotta once beat the greatest fighter of all time. Honestly don't over analyze this. Pavlik's just the type of customer that Jake would love to beat the **** out of.
