they fought six times with four of them being 10 rds and one at 12 rounds and the last at 15. why was their last fight for the middleweight 15 and not 12 or 10?if this would have happened lamottta would have retained the middleweight title as i believe he was ahead for eight rds.history would have changed.
Title fights were almost universally standardized at 15 rounds until the mid 80's, sometime in the the 1920's. Although they were a few exceptions till the next decade.
