Lampley: "All the Boxing organizations are corrupt."

    Was watching the re-cast of Martinez-Pavlik tonight.

    At the end, Jim Lampley did a "flash forward" real-time commentary, explaining how Sergio went on to win all the belts, with 4 consecutive KO's, and then the various organizations strip him of those titles.

    then he said, almost verbatim: "Sergio is the true Champion. The ruling bodies are bogus, Martinez is not."

    :p

    I love it. I'm trying to think of another time any announcer so blatantly called these organizations crooked. I'm also surprised, since I assume HBO & Showtime need to stay on good terms with these scumbags, in order to arrange fights.

    Could this be the start of a power-struggle between HBO and the governing bodies, perhaps in an effort to clean up the sport a little? - Or is this just wishful thinking?

    Thoughts?

    I remember watching Lewis/Holyfield I on YouTube and afterwards they showed a clip of Merchant and Lampley tossing the belts into a garbage can a la Riddick Bowe

    This is nothing common sense hasn't been telling us for decades. But it is nice to hear a public figure involved in the sport reiterate every so often. Im not a big fan of Lampley's announcing, but good for him for speaking the truth.

    There is nothing more corrupt in boxing than the HBO crew biasly and bogusly telling their audience that there house fighter is winning a fight when cleary he's not!

    Lampley is the last person who should open his mouth about corruption in boxing as he and HBO are the leaders of corruption with their influence on uneducated viewers. :deal

    Its not even a close comparison. HBO isn't giving out and stripping titles while breaking their own rules. Call it shoddy announcing and I would agree, but its a long way from the corruption of the ABC orgs.

    Lampley is a hypocrite.

    He's alright on the one hand saying that organisations are corrupt, yet on the other he's flagwaving for the 'champions' of these 'governing' bodies on a regular basis.

    learn what corruption is moron. lampley may be biased. he might not agree with you. but that is way different from corruption.

    I remember that and applauded Lampley for it. Not many call out these corrupt organizations for their wrongdoings.
