not racist. Anyone claiming it is, is probably fixated on race. Kirkland was a street kid. Stop with the language policing.

If a black man says it, then its funny... This isn't the N word here! Words like this are so threaded into American culture that PC kind of takes a back seat.

The world was a better place when racism wasn't the one & only focal point.

Because Ann Wolf using that language is coming from a completely different context and perspective than it would from someone like Lampley.

That's the issue here though; it has become OK to generalize how "ghetto" people think and behave. Having a rich white man tell viewers at home a fighter needs to "go ghetto", aka become wild and violent, to win the fight, implies the assumption that ghetto people have a violent side to them at all time, as is part of their "ghettoness." It seems like I'm reading into it too much , but I'm really not, just unpacking it. Ask Jim Lampley why he said what he said, and it will become real difficult for him to explain his use of the word without giving into stereotypes of poor minorities.

Changed his life? He just did 2 years how has he changed his life exactly? Hasn't got caught for something stupid again yet?

He just got out of jail one year ago..... So obviously if you stay out of jail for 1 year you changed your "life".... I know black people logic but whatever.

I don't even remember Lampley saying that. From what I remember he echoed the whole get gorilla thing Ann Wolfe had already said.

Oh btw wasn't Lampley just repeating what Ann Wolfe was saying to Kirkland in the corner? Didn't she say to Kirkland to "get ghetto on him"? I know she told him to get "street on him" and go "gorilla" and i could swear she said go ghetto on him. Either way stfu Im tried of this bull**** and over sensitive ***gots that make this **** a double standard. If a black guy said it everyone would be all "oh hellz yea that boy uf mad ghetto get ghetto son!". But if a white guy says it then its "oh god how racist of that white devil how dare he say something that if a black person said it that it would be cool but cause you are white you must want slavery back".:patsch

What do you know of Lampley's upbringing, where he's been and what he's seen in his lifetime? How is it any less racist for you to make generalizations about Jim Lampley being a spoonfed, rich white man than it is for him to suggest that Kirkland "go ghetto"?

I understand where you're coming from, but this guy's "ghetto" or poor past has been glamorized, and that is actually part of his marketability. His fighting style parallels that attribute. Ghetto is really a homonym, to me it can also mean "Dig deep and fight through adversity". You know, "ghetto people" don't take crap from anyone. Why does it have to be negative?

There's white ghettos, latino ghettos, asian ghettos.. this is not inherently a black/white thing.

Besides, he was basically just repeating what Anne Wolfe said.

    non-story.

I'm still enjoying the hypocrisy of those labeling Jim Lampley a pasty white know-nothing in response to his statement that Kirkland should "go ghetto" on his opponent, which despite the obvious accuracy such a statement would carry, is not even calling Kirkland "ghetto," per se.
