At the end of the video below @ 4:56 he says he doesn't miss working with George, without any explanation. What's that all about? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qF8F-wrmMw&feature=related[/ame]
I remember reading that the two didn't really get along behind the scenes. I also recall reading one story by a fan who witnessed an argument between the two right before they were to go on air, which ended with Foreman giving Lampley a long, cold stare.
I get a kick out of Lampley. PBF on Lampley: "Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, Emanuel Steward, they're always talking about the negative things in my life," Mayweather said. "But I've seen Jim Lampley in the same strip club as me before. They always want to talk about me going to strip clubs, but they don't want to talk about that."
I would rather work with George than with Lampley who's nothing more than a glorified cheerleader. Im still waiting for the option of not having to listen to any commentators but still be able to listen everything else, that would be perfect.
Its a shame at the end of the interview he said 'Last question; do you miss working with GF?' 'No' If he'd said 'second last question', he could have asked 'why?'
Foreman was not a better announcer than Lampley. If you don't like the guy that's fine.... but Lampley brings a professionalism to the commentary that lacks with most other annoucing teams. Also, I don't miss Foreman screaming like a hysterical lady that "Holyfield is going to die in the ring!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yea he's a good commentator, I used to like Foreman and Larry Merchants battles though :yep I can't think of any other sports where the commentators sit and argue with eachother so much, maybe its an American thing?
As an announcer, George loses to Lewis for the title of pfp worst of all time. But that's not a nock on George, Lennox was just too good.
Sometimes it felt like George was contradicting the rest of the commentating team just because he wanted them to know he knew more about boxing than them, no matter how stupid his arguments were. Just watch Bhop/Tito for some good examples.
Big George was a Big Fud. His bias and stupidity ruined commentaries. His bias during the Tito-Hopkins fight was spectacular, and he said in the 12th round that Buddy McGirt deserved to hold onto his title in the 1st Sweet Pea fight. The guy only got that gig because of his celebrity, he was a shocking analyst.
One of the comments on youtube said: Wtf happened?! And please don't spoil the fight, I plan to watch it.
