There was a riot after the Bowe Golota fight and Foreman stood between some of the rioters and the commentating team.

It will be a long, long time until I hear a commentator so biased towards one fighter as George was towards Trinidad that night.

Well, I'm not gonna to disagree with that one...

I thought I remember some off-colour comments about Allah...? Like: "where are you now, Allah". No? I remember thinking if the same comments were made about JC, it would have been public apology time.

Anyway, I guess I like a little controversy in the announcing team. George made me laugh more than a few times... And he came across as I guy who said his mind (obviously he doesn't need to worry about keeping his job) and I think thats a good thing.

No. Lampley did say something very out of line. His quote was "Prince Naseem Hamed said that if he lost this fight it was written by Allah. Well, so far this fight suggests that Allah can spell Barrera, B-A-R-R-E-R-A." Foreman then said "You should cool it with that." I respect Foreman for standing up there. Even though George isn't a Muslim, he still knows that you leave a man's religion alone.

But Hamed has no problems mentioning Allah in some of his interviews.

I agree that Lampley should have decided not to go there, but George can't take that "moral" stand if he gives Hamed a free pass.

On topic - most former athletes are terrible announcers anyway. Most cannot articulate their own sport. Announcers are trained on the get go to be on the mic.

Yes, I was going to say that about Hamed. Hamed always mentions the religion, but also he is very arrogant. Muslims are supposed to be very humble, which Hamed is not. But, regardless of Hamed's arrogance, it doesn't give Lampley the right to say something so IGNORANT. I don't hold it against Lampley though. I think he just said that without thinking. Jim Lampley seems like a nice, big-hearted guy. So this is not an attack on him. I was just setting the record straight for anyone who says that Lampley didn't say anything wrong. He did.

**** that. Hamed made a HUGE deal out of Allah being with him and ****, doing ramadan prayer calls with this zealot look on his face before the fight... 'Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar' and ****. Hamed brought this element to the fights, not Lampley, and Lampley's comment was pretty damn innocuous anyway. It's comparable to when Kimo used to drag a damn 10 ft. cross into the ring. You do **** like that, you open it up to being talked about.

What, saying that Allah can spell Barrera? Are you saying he can't? You gonna blow somebody up now? Who's blaspheming now, I'd say it's everyone who thinks Allah can't spell a Mexican last name, not Lampley.

I'm getting goddam sick and tired of muslims thinking they can threaten everybody into worshipping thier religion too. 'Draw a picture of Allah and we'll kill you.' 'Say Allah can spell Barrera and we will be VERY offended!'... grow a thicker skin, Suzy. We're all just about done with that. In THIS country you have the right to say anything you want.

    Yes, definitely...in your basement!
Try saying 'anything you want' while being employed by a major television network.

Then I ask you again: Is saying 'Allah can spell Barrera' offensive somehow? Personally, I'm tired of seeing religion brought into sports PERIOD. Like at the Super Bowl, when a team wins they always thank God for giving it to them. What, God hates the other team or something?

I think if he actually existed, he would have bigger things to worry about than a boxing match or football game.

Hamed making a HUGH deal was wrong, yes. That doesn't mean that Lampley or anyone else should take the same route. I remember the guy that used to carry the cross on his back during the early UFCs. No, I don't agree with that at all. I am not attempting to invoke a religious discussion, just mentioning the fact that Jim was wrong for mentioning Hamed's religion. Regardless if Hamed makes mention of the religion on a regular basis, it still doesn't make Lampley right.

Foreman offered the most insightful fight commentary bar none. His vast ring experience and ring intelligence allowed him to see things the others could not.

Personally, I though Roy was much more insightful. He was the one most likely to point something out that you never considered, or make an accurate prediction on how a fight was going to unfold.

I liked George but I thought he too often strayed towards his favourite soundbites like "you shouldn't ever follow a puncher around".

You should check your statements. This rant you are going on is baseless. It is against our religion to threaten anyone into believing what we believe. It says in our religion "let there be no compulsion in religion". You are misinformed.

Draw a picture of Allah? Who did that? Who knows what Allah looks like? Obviously you are misinformed again. If you are referring to the people making a cartoon out of The Prophet Muhammad (saws), then you should look into the reason. The Prophet didn't allow anyone to paint or draw his picture. It is forbidden in Islam to draw living things. After all, it wasn't The Prophet's appearence that was important, it was the message from Allah that he came with.

You say "In this country". Where do you think I am from. Let me guess, you picture me right now sitting on a camel, while typing back to you. Is that what you see, buddy? Wrong again! I am an American, caucasian if you would like to know my race. My religion is Islam. It isn't a threat to you in any way. If your religious beliefs differ from mine, well that is fine.
All that I ask, is that before you jump to conclusions ask more questions instead of assuming so much. We Muslims are a peaceful people, but if you happen to meet someone of our religion who isn't so peaceful. Blame the person, not the religion. I don't blame Christians for Adolf Hitler and Timothy McVey.
