Two of the best, most dominating wins by a smaller fighter over a far larger (Good) fighter in history? Two first round KO's by a very much past prime Langford... Thoughts?
Godfrey was entering his proffesional debut when langford kayoed him, this hardly means anything. Godfrey was nowhere near experienced at the time. Many Many fighters were capapble of beating Godfrey in his pro debut! I might also add, Godfrey did knockout sam Langford, why itsnot on boxrec I will never know, he knocked sam langford out in 3 rounds in 1921 in Burton IA once he got a little experience under his belt Aug. 17, 1921 – George Godfrey, Covington Riverside Athletic Club KO 1 “Once while George (Godfrey) was still new to the game, he met Langford in Covington, KY, and thinking the time ripe to establish himself in the fight game, stepped right out at the bell to finish “Tham.” Really, George was just a big, green boy and when Langford saw what he was up to, the “Tar Baby” knocked him out in a hurry, “Jes to show you not to git smart wit yo bettahs,” as he confided to Godfrey after the fight. Godfrey just wasn't that good. The revisionist hoopla is fashionable at best. And sure, I could get some folks to say I was the best light heavy they ever saw, also, and I sucked.
There is nothng revisionist about the pro Godfrey movment on this board. Whether it is absolutely right or woefully wrong it is certainly not revisionist.
