Langford - Jeannette - Full Clip-Real Speed

Yes, he was tough, durable and all that and he knew it. And he still was scared of Langford´s power. Says something.

 

Its a very valuable piece of footage, because it allows us some yardstick to form an opinion of the first "Murderers Row".
I read Jack Johnson, talking about smothering Langford's right hand, and keeping him safe in clinches,what about his dynamite left ?
Though short ,Langford is a heavyweight in all but height, a Tyson template.
I think only very strong heavies would be able to neutralise Sam in close.

 

Johnson's clinch would always be a big problem for Langford as it was in their actual fight, but Langford shows some counter-maneuvers to combat the clinch such as the counter hooks as Jeannette attempts to tie him up and ability to put power in his punches at very short distance. Johnson wouldn't have ever left a fight with a prime Langford without a scratch I'm sure.

 

I think it would be life and death ,Sam weighed 156lbs, and Jack 187lbs ,both were short of their peak.
I would still go with Johnson ,but I think he knew it would be a real battle ,and, he could pick up purses as good or better, without half the risk.

I dont care what fighter you are, a prime Langford will definitely leave his mark on you, whether he loses or wins.

 

Firstly a big thank you to He-Grant, great work, thank you. Secondly, as ungrateful as it sounds is there anyway this can be fast froward/rewindable? As my work only allows me to watch the boxing sporadically. Understandable if you want to keep interlectual property rights though...

I have to admit these 2 had more skills than I'd have given their generation credit for, although there is some sloppyness too. Jeannette is outboxing Langford for periods, as mentioned his balance is sloppy, he is very athletic, he is similar to Anthony Dirrell in some ways, with his athleticism on the outside but serious lack of any infighting ability (maybe unfair to judge him ). His lateral movement is pretty decent, he usually overreaches with the jab, although sometimes manages to double it. Still not a particularly great jab, not nearly as skilled as the later Tunney

I'll get shot down for this but Langford is almost like a 2handed version of David Tua in that he'll be outboxed by a decent boxer for long periods and stalk and look to close his man down with his power

I don't think Langford could ever beat Johnson, based on this footage. I also don't think Langford is the ATG P4P talent he's made out to be, in the sense that P4P means if everyone was the same weight the best P4P fighter would be the best. Langford achieved allot, was very good, but if everyone in all fighting history was the same weight he would not be top 10

Langford is almost a 2 handed venison of Tua you say? Only in height and power. Langford had much more heart, stamina, and skills. Tua punked out vs. Lewis and Byrd.

You don't think Langford could ever beat Johnson? Lol. Sam looks better than Johnson on film, and Jeanette is better than all of Johnson's title opponents. Jeannette had better foot speed, and chin. Langford crushed him.

 

Tua is very skilled, he's just short, comparitively shorter to his opposition than Langford and yes he doesn't have adequate workrate

Johnson is a complete different kettle of fish to Jeanette, he's much taller/rangier, hes much stronger, hit harder and much better in the clinch, much better inside fighter with his uppercut and short sharp punches
