GL: How do you feel about your performance? "I feel good. I went 10 good rounds with a solid fighter and i closed the show in the last round. He was a cagey guy and a veteran and I feel that every fight is a learning experience. I will go back to the gym and train hard and look to improve things with my trainer Ismael Salas who has really helped me in the transition to the pros. GL: You told me to expect an early night, were you surprised that Brewer lasted ten rounds? EL: "No. He's a guy that had won 8 in a row going into the fight including wins over Steve Forbes and K9 Bundrage, so I expected him to come to win. Also, I feel after he felt my power in the first round he started to be in survival mode and I methodically broke him down and when he opened up in the last round I stopped him. Look, every fight the eyes are on me and people will always expect more and I understand and I'm willing to accept those responsibilities and I will definitely give a better performance next fight and continue to show people why I am the best prospect in the world. GL: Whats next for you? EL: "Whoever my promoter puts in front of me I am willing to fight anybody in the 154 lb division. Brewer was a solid contender and I want to keep stepping up in level of competition. When I came here from Cuba I came on a mission and that's to win a world title." GL: Do you feel your ready for the likes of Martinez, Cintron, Angulo, Spinks? EL: "Yes I do. I would love the opportunity to fight any champion in the division. I know that Martinez and cintron have big fights coming up and I understand. But Alfredo Angulo is on my radar. I think it would be a great fight. I would also love to fight Spinks he has been a great champion for a long time and I would be willing to fight him in his hometown." GL: Closing Thoughts? EL: I wanna thank my managers Shelly Finkel and Luis Decubas Jr. My trainer Ismael Salas who is a great trainer.I really feel i have the best team in boxing and in 2010 I will become World Champion. I also want to tell your former fighter Ishe Smith to stick to writing columns. Don't be a hater you have had your chances and numerous times you have proved that you are a B level fighter on your best night."
Lara has great potential, but at this point in his career, El Perro might just be a little too much for him.
Angulo isnt hard to find, but his pressure style could be trouble for Lara right now, as Lara tends to shell up on the inside. I'd agree with Pimp C - a couple more fights, some added tools and tweaking and he'd be ready. Physically, he's one of the most talented fighters in the division. Maybe Spinks had slowed down so much that Lara could beat him now.
I dont think so. Before the Brewer fight i would say yes but Lara showed his inside game is lacking and you know with Angulo its basically going to be an inside fight as Angulo will be in his chest all night. I think he needs to work on that inside game or Angulo destroys him. Brewer stunned Lara on the inside and i thin Angulo would too except Angulo is a great finisher unlike Brewer.
The thing about Angulo is his size, I am still shocked he can make 154, When I met him at Maywood Boxing back in sept the man is just friggen huge he looks like a light heavyweight.
i am going to be the odd ball, but i am willing to say that lara will never be ready for el perro. i just don't think he will respond well to pressure.
