Canelo is 21 and yet to face a top JrMW. ALvarez shouldn't just be looking at 'names', he should be looking at fighters who will test his mettle. He should be fighting any of these guys: Bundrage Quintana Lara Trout Molina Kikrland or Martirosyan Regardless of how well known they are. Canelo is getting the star treatment for doing nothing but being Mexican and popular. Call me old fashioned, but the kid gloves should be off the handling of the kid by now. Especially if this is how he's being marketed. Hell, i'd be fine w/ a SHO level fight w/ Mundine. Since Cotto seems to be out of the mix for this one.
No, it's about marketing. This is a sport first, remember? But I guess as long as Canelo gets ranked highly for beating no one, paid like a superstar, and the fans don't give a ****, more power to them right?
You know boxing don't work like that bro... Why don't GB put together a tourney (Super Six) style with all the guys you mentioned & the winner gets to hold Canelo's belt loop.
I agree, its now or never. No more soft touches. I do expect him to fully handle any of the above names however, but we'll never know until he is in there.
I know it doesn't work like that anymore. But I'm sure as **** not going to pull that "Well....XXXX isn't well know enough" **** that seems to be how the newbie fans think now. Canelo's like that boy band getting corporate sponsorship and all the good venues while other bands bust their ass for a small club.
another elimination tourney to get to Canelo, no, bro that doesnt fool anybody anymore. We have to admit it, its just about money and the show.Nothing to do with the sport any longer.
I agree. I like Canelo, I think he has a bright future. I think he can beat several guys on that list. But for ****s sake, I wish GBP wouldn't be pushing him to the PPV circuit already, or ONLY looking at names people know.
:deal Boxing has become more about business then sport. Is it a coincidence that boxing's popularity is at a major low? I don't think so.
Canelo is a hell of a fighter, and highly ranked, as is Lara. It's a good fight for both, and provides excellent exposure for both. For Lara, it's a big TV fight. For Alvarez, it's a legitimate top JrMW. Is that good enough for you? :huh
WTF is your problem? I'm all for Canelo/Lara. Do I need to keep explaining to some of you that from a business POV Kirkland, Williams and Ortiz, made more sense than Laraatsch But don't despair, at the rate these guys are dropping Lara will probably end up making the most sense.
I just gave you an answer as to why Lara is calling out Canelo. Go smoke a cig and relax. And no, you don't need to explain any business **** to me. I am well aware. I just try not to post like some newbie sports agent, giving a pass (not implying you are, but many seem to do that here). The way I see it, the more fans excuse fights no happening due to economics, the more that justifies it. But we cool.
