He was clearly the better fighter, but he deserved this. You don't win pro fights with that strategy. You particularly don't dethrone PPV stars with that sort of plan. He completely forgot the part of boxing where you hit the other guy. For reference, I think Rigo vs. Donaire was beautiful. Contol the ring, go into the pocket at time, make him miss, and counter him hard so he backs off. Completely control the fight. This was more along the lines of Froch vs. Dirrell, minus the holding. If this was an amateur fight, Lara would have won by a landslide. It was an absolutely horrible game plan, disgraceful lack of activity, and to be honest he looked more afraid than ring general. I didn't see punch stats but I assume they were godawful since only one of the fighters wanted to fight. Not interested in seeing Lara again.
A- f*cking-men to that. Idiot just killed his career. Didn't win and was boring. Good luck fighting on Rigos undercards.
Mayweather will do the same Sept 13 ,so what's the different .,Marco will be swing at air the whole fight ,oh damn Mayweather did beat Canelo convincingly and still got a MD.
Mayweather wont do the same. He is clearly more aggressive and tatical than Lara. Lara just flat out ran.
I had Canelo winning 116-112. Lara ran too much. There's a difference between ring generalship and running.
Watch Lomachenko Vs. Russell...............Lomachenko used lateral movement, he moved, but he also landed hard effective punches. Lara ran, but did nothing.....................like I said before, one left from Alvarez did more damage than all of Lara's punches put together and the body punches were awesome...............
he did ok but didnt take canelos title. when u back up u gotta punch u cant just walk back throw a jab or hook or something when u back up, otherwise u are running
There were whole minutes where he would avoid Canelo without throwing anything. I would not be surprised if his game plan consisted of landing a shot and then avoiding Canelo for the rest of the round. He had plenty of opportunities to counter after some of the wide shots Canelo threw, but for what ever reason he chose not too. Lara also had a huge range advantage and didn't make use of it, instead when Canelo got close he would move to the opposite side of the ring way beyond throwing range. I like boxers/movers, but there were times where all Lara had to do was shout meep meep and he would have ended up landing the role of the next roadrunner.
If Lara was the better fighter he would have proved it, all he proved is he was the better track star. Maybe he can get a job with Usian Bold teaching him the proper way to run for 36 minutes.
