Top 154 lbs available and competitive? Lara,Molina,Trout and Vanes.
K-9 is 40 yrs old and whoever knows boxing can tell how stiff and unskilled he is.Just raw power.
But if k-9 fights canelo I'm ok with it.
Everytime canelo avoids a real contender he improves his resume but pedals back on his improvement as a boxer. While Lara keeps gaining experience fighting tough pressure fighters as Williams and Freddy( who is NOT a bum)...the day canelo fights someone with speed and angles, what's he gonna do?
The smartest one to fight would be Trout, who's a southpaw and decent technician since I understand the risk that involves fighting Lara ( business wise)
Read yahoo article today about canelo
    Did I answer your question?

Yes, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is just days away from his 22nd birthday and has been facing a solid level of opposition for a fighter of his age and at this stage of his professional career. But the moment the red-headed Mexican star opted to receive the practically gift-wrapped WBC junior middleweight belt, he gave up all rights to take safe, developmental bouts.

As a reigning world champ, he needs to fight the best and the following five contenders should be on his "must-fight" list:
    Erislandy Lara
The Cuban amateur star is, arguably, the most skilled fighter in the crowded junior middleweight division, but has found it nearly impossible to get a meaningful bout with one of the elite. In recent fights, Lara has been more aggressive in the ring and a track record of knockouts may make it even harder to get a big fight. With a loss via robbery to Paul Williams, a draw with Carlos Molina, and victories over Danny Perez, Grady Brewer, Ronald Hearns, and Freddy Hernandez, Lara should be in the running for a big-money title fight against Canelo, but Golden Boy, promoter of both fighters, refuses to even consider it right now.
    Vanes Martirosyan
Martirosyan already won an official WBC title-eliminator bout only to be told that he had merely fought a "semi-final" eliminator and would have to fight a "final" eliminator against Erislandy Lara if he wanted title consideration. Instead of going along with the plan, the talented junior middleweight balked at the order and, in the process, may have permanently eliminated himself from consideration.
[From Kevin Iole: Top Rank, Golden Boy hurting boxing with date squabbling]
    Miguel Cotto
The Puerto Rican star is no longer a world-title holder following his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., but he's still one of the division's elite and should serve as a true gatekeeper for anyone wanting to enter the junior middleweight upper tier. Cotto, however, may have different plans and has recently talked about a possible move up to middleweight.
    James Kirkland
"The Mandingo Warrior" was originally pegged to fill in against Alvarez after Paul Williams was tragically paralyzed in a motorcycle accident last month. Kirkland, however, walked away over a money dispute. An effort should be made to revisit negotiations for this one, though, because Canelo-Kirkland would be a war and a true baptism by fire for the young Mexican star.
[Also: Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield joke on Twitter about infamous 'Bite Fight']
    Austin Trout
Trout beat Canelo's brother, Rigoberto, for the vacant "regular" WBA junior middleweight title and that, alone, would be a solid back story for a potential showdown. Aside from that selling point, Trout is, legitimately, one of the best at 154 lbs. and would make for a solid test against Alvarez.

Well Molina was beating Kirkland's ass easily before the bull**** DQ, and Canelo was gonna fight Kirkland after that. So yeah a draw is not too bad.

but he didn't impress much. he's solid but he's not that exciting (the hearns fight is just 1 fight) and he doesn't have an awesome resume either. don't see why they would match him with canelo yet. give him vanes or something.

Last week Lara was asked who was on his radar and he said he wanted Alvarez,Molina, and Martinez. He said he really respects Martinez' skills and that's why he wanted to fight him. He said Molina was a tough opponent and he wants the rematch(although Molina would make this one sloppier than the 1st one) but he said he was sure he would KO Canelo. They asked him how many rounds did he think it would go, and he said 6 rounds max.

you do understand boxing is a business right? So Canelo is not afraid of Mayweather or Cotto but he is afraid of Lara?
