    purses
Golovkin 1.5 mil. vs Monroe 100k
Lara 1 mil. vs Rodriguez 140k

If you can get Lara to take 100k to fight him then I'm sure that Golovkin would be happy to. But I think that both fighters want at least as much money to fight each other as they would to fight some unknown opponent. That means the fight would have to generate at least 2.5 million, and in all likelihood more than that.

If there is only about 2 million dollars on the table for a fight, one of the fighters needs to take a pay cut to make the match happen; but both are expecting raises since the fight is riskier than normal. HBO has a deal with Golovkin and is happy to hype up his fights, but they have no such deal with Lara. If Lara should somehow win, then he would take all the publicity generated by HBO along with the belt over to their competition on PBC. So HBO isn't particularly enthusiastic about putting up 3-5 million dollars for a Lara/Golovkin fight unless Lara signs a deal to fight for them too. The problem with that is Lara is already with Haymon who won't do business with HBO.

They could take the fight to pay per view, but Lara isn't a big enough name to generate many buys. And after the lackluster performance of Golovkin's last pay per view he needs a big drawing opponent like Cotto or Alvarez to get ratings up. Without a lot of press building up the fight, there is no way a pay per view with Lara does any kind of decent business.

The only way I can see this thing coming off is if K2 and PBC come to an agreement, possibly for one show, but K2 is pretty tight with HBO. Hayman could throw money at the problem since he doesn't need to turn a profit and he could ensure both fighters big purses to fight on PBC. It wouldn't be PPV, but he could build it up on CBS or something and run it in prime time. Of course, any deal between Haymon and Golovkin's managers would have to include options for a fight with Quillin and other top middleweights on Haymon's payroll. This might actually be a good thing.

Lara has fought the better comp, then GGG... so he deserves a good purse to fight him.

While I agree that Lara is a great fighter who deserves more respect than he's getting and if they met it would be as two top p4p fighters, I disagree that Lara is a draw. He stinks the place out when he fights. He was just awful against Canelo when he got his big shot at s****om. He puts spectators to sleep watching him. This would be a great styles fight since he's a defensive wizard and Golovkin is a god of war but there's a real chance that Lara might turn it into a snooze fest too.

Sure he has, but he's still not the draw that Golovkin is. Fighters aren't paid according to their records. They are paid based on how big a draw they are, how many people attend their fights, and their television ratings. Roberto Duran was 71-1 when he fought Ray Leonard having already defeated Esteban De Jesus, Carlos Palomino, Ken Buchanan, as well as numerous others but he still got short money to fight Ray Leonard because Ray was the bigger draw.

He's good enough, I think there is a chance. He's got a way better chance than most of the guys currently at middleweight.

Yeah, it would definitely benefit GGG to juggle his career around Lara because Lara brings so much to the table:patsch
