Unbeaten former Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara (10-0, 5 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over 39-year-old veteran junior middleweight Grady Brewer (26-11, 15 KOs), winner of The Contender II reality television show. Referee Tony Weeks waved in off in the tenth after Lara dropped Brewer and battered him with a follow-up barrage. Time was 2:44.

Lara is my favorite of the Cuban boxers. I believe Lara will have a better pro career and will accomplish more than Gamboa and perhaps Rigo. Lara appears to be more of a complete, well rounded fighter.

Lara is very good but not as good as Gamboa and Rigondeaux. Lara does'nt fight good on the inside, and needs to develop more combos like Gamboa. He depends a lot on his straight left and sometimes forgets his other punches. Brewer was dodging his straight left all night long and Lara sometimes could'nt land because of that. He needs to use more hooks, uppercuts and more his jab.

Here is my P4P list of the current Cuban fighters.

#1- Gamboa ( has developed better than Rigo in the pros )
#2- Rigondeaux ( very close to Gamboa )
#3- Lara ( very good but needs more improvement )

Yeah, he did hit Brewer with his left but missed more than he landed...

Lara will be World Champ but if he wants to be a " dominant World Champ " he needs to focus on developing a better more rounded arsenal...

    Go Lara!!! Keep it up!

Brewer is a tough, slick and a very experienced fighter, I give him much credit...Good learning experience for Lara...

Lara has a good style for his attributes. Would it be nice to see improvements in certain areas? Of course. Lara may improve with time. Every fighter has room for improvements. Gamboa certainly could polish up on his lack of defense and balance to name a few.

If Lara commits to using more combos as you say, he could open himself up and be susceptible to getting counted by faster fighters since Lara's hand speed is average at best. Lara probably knows this which is why he doesn't counter as frequently as someone like Gamboa.

Another bad decision in boxing tonight. In the main event they gave the decision to Shumenov. :-(

It was a bit of a premature stoppage but Lara turned it on in the last round.

It was certainly a brilliant fight for Lara to take, he would have learned alot from that fight....all credit to Brewer for putting up a real good scrap. Thought it was a good opener for the night.
